We went to the Ypres Castle on a Friday night after recommendation from the Jeakes House. We are a lively bunch of 6 so we didnt want to just sit in a pub staring at each other and were told there was a live band playing on a Friday night. We booked a table to eat at 7.30 in the... more

I friend of mine working on her PhD invited a few of us to come along for her fieldwork, based around Rye. On the way back, 3 miles out of the town, we got caught in a horrible rain/hail/30mph wind storm and one of the guys got a flat tire on his bike so we had to walk for hours... more

I have been to the Ypres a few times and find it a comfortable place to stop and have a drink. The usual barmaid is very friendly and sociable - it's a shame that the landlord is not nearly as welcoming. I went there today for a drink and a chat, then decided to stay for a meal. It became... more

Such a disappointing experience. My girlfriend and I stopped here for a bite to eat during a weekend in Rye. The food was reasonably priced and sounded fine on the menu. It was however not too good at all. My continuental meat platter was bland, over -processed and unappetising and B's soup was watery and tasteless. We could have coped... more

You eat very well here - and there's a good variety of food from snacks to main meals. I particularly enjoy their Harveys Bitter which is always excellent. I have visited the Ypres several times over recent years and it has been consistently good. It is a gem of a place in a wonderful location - with a fab garden. more

We visited the Ypres for a meal on the first evening in Rye. My husbands beer was a bit cloudy; mine (different) was not much better, although tasted ok. Then my husband noticed black bits floating about bottom of his pint. The fact that his pint was from the end of the barrel should have caused the landlord, who served... more

Portions tiny, beer warm, vegetables cold, dreadfully overpriced, manager rude and aggressive when we complained. Would never go back there again. more

Hi,my husband, myself, and two friends spent last weekend in Rye and we came across your pub, where we had a meal on friday night. As well as the food and wine being excellent, the service was brilliant and we had a lovely time. Afterwards,we went into the bar, where there was a great jaz band playing, and we were introduced to a few of the... more

The Ypres (pronounced Wipers) is a perfect place for an evening meal after a busy day of sightseeing in Rye. The pub is tucked into a quiet hillside next the the Ypres Castle. We found great food, friendly people and a relaxing atmosphere on the night we dined here. The staff and publican were extremely accommodating and the menu &... more

Visited this pub a couple of times. Firstly just for a drink with friends. Thought it very cosy with a friendly feel. Thought the lunch menu looked different and interesting so booked ourselves in for evening meal for our last evening of week long stay in Rye. We were so disappointed! Food was average, but incredibly overpriced. Most main courses... more
