Sadly the room we occupied faced to the front overlooking the main road, and next door bar. The first morning we were treated to a very over cooked bacon, ( we were informed that this was due to another stand in cook). The breakfast improved vastly the second morning. Fruit salad, good quality yogurt and fruit juices. The room number... More

Lovely setting in the middle of the town near the square. The rooms are rather tiny, but as it was built in 790AD, dont expect more than a bed for the night. The rooms near the front are very noisy with traffic noise and pigeons on the trees. The breakfast is wonderful, and the chef very warm. They lock the... More

My boyfriend and I stayed here over Easter bank holiday weekend and had a lovely weekend. Stow is my favourite village by far and is a great base for visiting all of the other smaller villages. Our room was up a few higgledy stairs and we had the classic room that was just the right size it was just as... More

A proper old hotel; I came here on my own a while back and I had a lovely stay here. It's a bit more on the pricey side but it's definitely worth it. Lovely rooms of character, good bathrooms, very polite service and above all has a lovely location in Stow-on-the-Wold. The breakfast is good too, very generous and included... More

We had spent the previous night in Burford and decided to call into Stow-on-the-Wold to pass an hour "on the way home". However, my wife, who will try every trick in the book not to go home - fluttering eyelashes, helpless girly voice etc - suggested we stay out for another night. While she was emptying a nearby charity shop... More

My room was clean, warm with lovely bedding. The old oak beams made it wonderfully cosy. My early week overnight stay cost £35 and was worth every penny. The bathroom was very small but fully functional, although the shower had no door on and the water went everywhere. I loved the uneven floors and quirky lines. Breakfast was wonderfully presented... just popped in on the off chance of a last minute room and were welcomed by a very pleasant Australian lady who offered us their last available room for £70... A very good price for such a stunning location and the oldest inn in the land. Room wasn't huge but perfectly fine and good value. The history of the hotel... More

Well I only popped in for a quick drink... as I was having a quiet drink all I could hear was who I believe is the owner/manager swearing n having a meeting with staff. What a disgusting man. How do people like that end up in this trade. However the lovely pregnant lady what patience she must have but isn't... More

We stayed at the Royalist recently with three other couples whom we had been traveling with throughout the countryside. The quaintness and attractiveness of a 947 AD historic hotel may get people to stay there but be forewarned the quality is noticeably absent. This hotel is "on hold" waiting for an upgrade which results in poor service and somewhat sub-standard... More
