I stayed here regularly whilst attending lectures at the University. The rooms were clean and decorated to a high standard. The breakfast was well prepared and the overall service by Andy and his wife was sincere and to a high standard. They made me feel very welcome. I will stay here if I am down in Portsmouth again.

I stayed a week here at Esk Vale and was delighted with the place. To me a seaside B & B must have good sleep quality and location. These premises have both in spades. The present owners are a lovely couple who have dedicated themselves to the business and should be rewarded for their efforts. My flight into Heathrow was... More

I'm staying here as an actor working on a film. The service is what I would rate most highly, It is a friendly welcoming atmosphere here and that is something that is rare to find. The breakfast was exactly what I wanted and they catered to my dietary requirements. The room is great value and very comfortable. All in all... More

Just stayed at the Esk Vale Guest House for the weekend. The new owners were really friendly, kind and helpful. The breakfast was great and the whole experience was really good value for money. The Esk Vale is in a good position not far from the Southse attractions, but on a quiet road. We will be staying there again.

Really enjoyed my short stay at the Esk Vale. We arrived in Southsea for a Weekend away and found the Esk Vale by chance. The owners were very welcoming and booked us in with no hassle or fuss. The breakfast was fantastic and i would't hesitate to stay there again. Thanks Esk Vale.

We should have known when this was the last room in Portsmouth/Southsea that was available for the weekend when we were settling my daughter into uni that there was a reason for this - but we thought how bad can it be ! Don't be fooled by their cheery website, upon arrival at the hotel we were greeted by a... More

We had arranged to arrive around 1pm so was a bit disconcerted to read the notice on the front door saying "We will not answer the door or hire out rooms outside these times" The reception times stated as 9.30 - 12.00 on the Saturday of our arrival - not very welcoming. The door was, however, answered and we received... More

I worked in Portsmouth for 6 months and having completed detailed research and having tried a number of Guest Houses, I eventually came across Esk Vale and stayed for 4 months. An earlier review on this site of inflexible breakfast almost put me off - but the Guest House was under new ownership with Bev and Dave who made me... More

I stayed here with my adult son. We asked for a twin room and were given room 8, which has a double bed & single bed crammed into an attic room with sloping ceiling. The double bed wasn't very comfortable, having a very thin mattress on a very hard base. The single bed was okay. There was a strong musty... More
