Our host entertained us well at breakfast with interesting conversation and met our needs for a filling breakfast. Unfortunately, in our room the curtains, blinds and windows needed cleaning. The B&B is located approx 20 minutes walking distance from Gunwharf Quay, following the 'chain link' of paving stones along the ground. Views of the Spinnaker Tower (worth a visit), across... more

I stayed for three weeks, out-of season, in a single room whilst attending a course in Portsmouth. It served its purpose for this though it wasn't the most comfortable of rooms. The room was very small, had a small bed (with plastic mattress cover - euugh!) and a duvet aimed at small children. Fortunately I was travelling with my own... more

Fantastic location right on the water, located right beside two pubs and easy walking distance to the main sight seeing attractions. Overall, the B&B is average. The cleanliness and upkeep of the rooms was questionable and the food was average at best. The bed was worn out and uncomfortable. Go for the location, not a traditional B&B atmosphere. more

We stayed in the top room of the Sailmakers Loft. From the bedroom you could see the ferries pass by the window, in the bathroom you could sit on the toilet and look at the port. If location, view, value for money and a fantastic breakfast weren't enough then there's the landlord Bob: Portsmouth born and bred, ex-merchant marine, homespun... more

We recently stayed 3 nights in the top floor room of the Sailmakers Loft. There are 2 reasons to stay here: 1) Location, Location, Location! Situated between 2 real ale pubs, located on the millenium trail and just 10 minutes away from GunWharf Quays, Tower and Historic Dockyard.; and 2) Vista from the top floor room Floor to celiing window... more

Excellent Location Nice views, not a "blanket" ocean view. There is a building directly in front, but to the right, there are still nice views and can see boats come and go easily. Easy going host. The price is right. The Sailmaker's Loft isn't posh, but is comfortable. Our room appeared fresh and sunny with soft yellow and blues. The... more

My wife and I stayed at this B&B May 9 during a brief visit to Portsmouth. The location is excellent; right in Old Portsmouth. All sights are within a 15 minute walk. The view from our top floor double en suite were amazing - we looked straight down the harbor towards the historic dockyards and saw ferries passing by, it... more

The Sailmaker's Loft is exactly what is says on the website namely a small family run Bed & Breakfast situated in the heart of the Old Portsmouth. I had the single room which was absolutely ideal for me. I was on a boating course and when I needed to study in the evening I just sat by the open window... more

We had a short break in Portsmouth and stayed at the Sailmakers Loft. We were in the top room which has a balcony and spectacular views at the front towards Gosport, the Isle of Wight and ferries as they go past. There was even another little balcony off of the bathroom where you could see towards Old Portsmouth, Spinnaker Tower... more

What a bargain. I cannot vouch for the other rooms, but the top floor balcony room was splendid. Take a couple of bottles of wine and sit up there and watch the ferries and people going by. Bed very comfortable, very near to tourist sights. Good cooked breakfast in the morning. Bit difficult to find though, even the satellite navigation... more
