We stayed one night in Winchester for a concert at the cathedral. I found the previous reviews a bit whiney. For 200 GBP per night you can't beat it (compared to 400 per night at Lainston House on a previous trip). We stayed in a cottage room which was perfect since we had our little dog with us. The room... more

Stayed here on the Sunday night "spend £75 in the bistro and stay for £10" offer. Food great (although spent double the £75 required). Paid extra to upgrade to a superior room but the room was on the small side and the bathroom could have done with a little tlc. Staff very friendly and attentive. more

We thought we were lucky to get three nights for the price of two at HdV but found our room small and bathroom very small! Probably we were given the smallest room in the house because we were on a reduced rate? Receptionist staff were friendly and we could be accomodated in the restaurant on the first night. Restaurant staff... more

First, the bottom-line: £200pn for a Garden room w/o breakfast. Stayed 2 nights over weekend. Room: Needs work HDV. Its not worth £200pn by current standards. Bathroom a bit jaded and poorly lit. stereo and DVD player were car-boot standard. TV better but too small for where it was located. No table to sit at in what was a fair... more

Bit of a last minute decision to stop off here on our way to the South West on a Sunday night. Made booking over phone a couple of hours before we arrived and parked up and checked in without a problem. It was late afternoon and we were quite looking forward to sitting in the garden terrace with a cold... more

This is the third HdV we have stayed at and we were disappointed. Our room was large but we felt there was something missing, there was easily enough room for a sofa but instead there was a large empty space. The floor was carpeted but the floorboards creaked so noisily in every part of the room that it annoyed us.... more

I have stayed at the hotel several times over the past year and value its convenient location. The downside is the noise from the road which I could hear from every room I have stayed in but is particularly bad at the front. Some of the staff are very helpful but some are not. The room decor is quite masculine... more

stayed in early May. booked the £145 dinner bed and breakfast deal. the bistro is really nice - a good selection on the menu and good service. room was a little small, though the bath was massive! we were on the side away from the road, though the road would still be noisy if you had the window open. parking... more

Very nice hotel, rooms named after Champagnes, we were in the Veuve Clicquot room (which by coincidence is Madam's favourite) but it was on the road side and we like to sleep with the window open so if you want a quiet room or sleep with the window open then ask for a room at the back. Bistro looks nice... more
