We stayed at the Trooper over a wedding weekend with the groom and his family. The hotel had somehow lost the groom's bedroom reservation and got off to a bad start by being utterly ungracious about giving him their last spare one. The food was wonderful, we had excellent service that evening and the pub/restaurant side was generally very homely... more

My husband and i have been here quite a few times, and even had a mini honeymoon here!!! We always come here to relax and the staff are excellant. The food is fantastic ( especially the lamb), the rooms are all lovely, taller people may want to avoid the upstairs rooms! There is also a room on the ground floor... more

Stayed here for a Saturday night in mid-January - the first clue that this was a little gem was when we overheard that all 8 bedrooms were fully booked and so was the restaurant. We have just arrived back from a two night stay at the Trooper. We were a group of twelve friends, who meet every October to walk, talk , eat and drink.
