I had a fantastic stay recently at The Black Lion Inn. The staff are incredibly friendly and go out of their way to be helpful. The rooms are clean, warm and good value. I can't think of anywhere else I would want to stay in St Albans. THANK YOU! more

This is a rather good hotel and if it had an AA rating I would imagine it would be a three star. It is in good decorative order and the room was pleasant, and serviced each day. The bar area is on the trendy side avoiding the drinking hole image in so many pubs, with a nice restuarant in which... more

We spent a couple of weeks here whilst visiting friends in and around London, you won't be disappointed in the number of pubs and bars in St Albans it has loads. We would like to thank the staff at the Black Lion, everyone was really helpful, we were quite demanding, great breakfasts, particularly that porridge. It in the best part... more

Stayed here for 3 nights while working in Hemel Hempstead. This historic old hotel has undergone an extensive revamp on the ground floor and has a relaxed modern style. The rooms are more basic but clean and only what we expected at this price. We stayed down the road last time and paid over £160 per night. Only complaint would... more

I stayed at the Black Lion with my family in early July, I have got nothing but good things to say about this place, it has a lovely bar with very friendly staff who went out of their way to accommodate us. The hotel room was very nice and well maintained. Couldnt have asked for a better location, close to... more

I stay in this hotel for 3 nights, and did not enjoy it. The room and bed were clean, but that was the only positive thing about it. There was no bolt or chain on the inside of the door, as a single traveller, secruity is a top priority, I did ask in reception if this could be addressed, but... more

I stayed here recently and was very happy with the accomodation. The hotel is in the heart of the old village of St Albans and is an interesting building. On check in I was made to feel extremely welcome by the staff. Subsequently in the bar this welcome was continued with the barman Maz being very aimiable. The locals were... more

Quite simply the worst venue I have ever dealt with ...............................I booked an event at this hotel, committing to book all the bedrooms in the process. The Managers were very quick to accept my deposit based on our verbal agreement of the terms with a written proposal to follow. I waited and chased this proposal (which outlined what I was... more

The NIGHT BEFORE my sister's wedding at 8pm the Black Lion Inn called to say they had re-booked the rooms we had reserved for all our wedding guests to people coming from a conference at the last minute. Not only did they leave all our wedding guests stranded and preparation ruined (invitations sent out, directions sent, hotel confirmed over a... more

This place provided me with one of the best laughs in a long time. Whilst it was grim, in retrospect it was so terrible it provided the basis for much amusing conversation. Anyway, I checked in and checked out all in 10 minutes. So, technically I didn't stay here. The first sign that all was not well was the delightful... more
