We stayed there for our first anniversary and it was gorgeous. Exactly what you would want! It was very oldy woldy and superb countryside. Really friendly atomosphere. Not a lot to add to previous reviews.It's very old and the uneven walls and floors give it real character.Rooms are OK with all you need for a short stay.Had a good meal in the the atmospheric restaurant.It's very handy for the Channel Tunnel but they are somewhat inflexible if you want a full breakfast and an early departure.No service... more

The Abbots Fireside is a real find. Set in Elham in the North Downs, there's plenty of good walking to be had in the nearby fields and you can even pick up a leaflet of walks from reception for the bargain price of £2.50. The hotel is "olde worlde" with leaded windows, timber everywhere, and not an even surface in sight. On entering the door you are greeted by a roaring open fire (where the spit roast is cooked for the evening meal) and wooden beams everywhere.
