We stayed here on a Superbreak for 4 nights. The hotel is in a good location for walking into the city of Canterbury. Perhaps one would give the underpass a miss at certain times of the day but otherwise we had no problems. The hotel is desparate for a makeover. The rooms are dated and shabby, I wouldn't like to... more

When I first arrived at this hotel I follwed the signs into the their overspill carpark. This was full of rubbish and the building looked shabby (almost derelict). A short walk found the main carpark which was better, aleit full of office workers smoking from the nearby offices. My company booled this room for me, and I'm glad because if... more

Thank you for your comment. We welcome all feedback as it guides us in our efforts to improve. The hotel is currently decorated in a traditional theme. Unfortunately some rooms are in need of updating. We are soon to embark on a refurbishment programme. This room more than others will obviosly benefit . We are genuinely sorry you did not...

We were surprised at the negative tone of some of the reviews. We found the hotel welcoming and friendly. The decor is past its best, but full of character, much more than a modern chain. Our room was huge and very clean and comfortable with a bathroom big enough for a game of squash. All the hotels were located in... more

Following a single night stay in what can only be described as a grubby hotel in need of refurbishment, I am covered in what look like flea bites. Is that just a coincidence? you decide. more

I stayed at the Swallow Chaucer this weekend, having found myself in Canterbury without a bed for the night. Overall I found the hotel quite pleasant, so was surprised at there being so many negative reviews here. We chose the Chaucer based on it's location (about 2 minutes walk from the centre and less than 5 from the Cathedral) and... more

Location – On the wrong side of town – whilst only a few minutes walk from the city centre you approach on foot through a dark & twisty subway – the neighbourhood may be OK but there is a sense of uneasiness that is not pleasant. Perhaps the fact that the hotel is right behind a Inland Revenue tax office... more

My boyfriend and I spent a week in England Sept 2006. We spent five nights in London and the other three in Canterbury. At the time of planning this trip we couldn’t reserve the hotel we wanted so our only choice was the Swallow Chaucer. We wished we would have reserved more in advance as many hotels have a small... more

We booked this hotel on a seasonal winter break deal as a perfect way to spend a birthday weekend... We arrived at 4pm and were given a room on the first floor overlooking the front of the hotel. On first inspection it seemed reasonable enough, a little shabby and tired but bearable. However, outside, just underneath our window was a... more

not the most glamorous hotel, but it proved good for our first visit to Canterbury. Arrived slightly earlier than planned, but cheerful receptionist checked if our room was ready..yes it was and the key passed over. On the second floor; views of the Cathedral; large bathroom; twin beds; separate sitting area. Lovely bed linen, but the room and most of... more

I have stayed here a few times now. The best thing about the hotel is the location with plenty of parking and easy access to the town. The hotel building is on the shabby side and it is somewhat over-priced. Rooms are reasonable, but when I arrived on a hot day the windows were closed up and the room was... more
