I was a bit confused by some of the reviews here because having recently stayed in this hotel for four days to attend a family wedding i can give it some good marks for service, room size and cleanliness although lower ones for decor. I think the whole staff must have changed recently as i encountered a very welcoming receptionist... more

I spent a couple of weeks at this very modestly priced hotel close to the centre of Tun Wells. OK the rooms are a little dated now (reading some other reviews) but they are very clean, spacious, well equiped and everything works. The staff were really helpful and I was able to negotiate a really competitative price without much hassle.... more

I stayed here for a week on business and while it was very convenient for my trip to work in the morning (very central hotel) that was as good as it got. I stayed in June and the rooms here do not have air conditioning or even a ceiling fan! so on arrival my room was like a sauna. the... more

Management response from
RussellManager, Manager

I am the General Manager of the Russell Hotel and I would like to thank everyone who has written a review or given me or my staff comments in person. I feel it is important to receive feedback in order to maintain good standards of service and rooms. I am naturally saddened to read the negative reviews and I ask...

Our drive to the hotel from London took just over an hour. The directions to the hotel from their website were good and we successfully found ourself in the car park. A very small car park (14 spaces for 24 rooms and staff) that was full. The receptionist told us we could park in the supermarket car park which was... more

I have to agree with what most people have said about the hotel. It isn't the best, but the location is a bonus. The problem is, the staff just don't seem to care, and the rooms suffer as a consequence. The breakfast is not so good also. It just needs some effort, and a bit of investment, and it could... more

We are not by nature the type of people that moan about hotels we have the philosophy of make the best of what you've got and get on with it, but we were so disapointed with this hotel we felt we owed it to anyone thinking of going here the truth, so here goes. This is most probably the worst... more

I agree with the majority of other reviews. This is the worst hotel I have ever been in. Do not book this hotel. It was boiling hot, dirty, beds were lumpy with grubby sheets and bathrooms were filthy. The manager was rude, the receptionist was apathetic and unhelpful when I asked for a clean room simply shrugging his shoulders, but... more

I stayed here when my wife was having an operation in the Kent and Sussex hosptial. This hotel was five minute walk from the hospital which made it ideal for my purpose. Yes the hotel is very old fashioned but I found it clean and everything worked properly. The staff were fine, I didn't find them rude. The breakfast was... more

Nicely situated, but dismal. Bedroom generally shabby. Wallpaper torn and damaged, paint chipped and in need of cleaning. Main lighting unit damaged, but serviceable. Curtains not wide enough for windows. Heating thermostat unserviceable. Television reception poor. Damage to bathroom wallpaper and paint similar to bedroom. Basin waste outlet part blocked. I would have checked out if stay had been booked... more

As a frequent user of hotels whilst on business, I have to state my great disappointment with the Russell. On entering the hotel, I found the receptionist totally apathetic when I enquired about the lack of a working restaurant, and the fact that I was given a dirty room in a house 100 yards from the hotel entrance. A shrug... more
