I stayed here the week before Christmas 2007. Excellent location - right in the centre of the village which is beautiful at any time of year. But other than that, not great. There were some refurbishments going on, and Christmas parties taking place. Noisy function room, corridors smelling of paint and distracted staff didnt make for a particularly relaxing stay.... more

We decided to stay at the Salutation because we'd stayed at the Red Lion in Grasmere in the past and found it great. The pool and gym facilities, together with the renovation pictures sold it to us as well. It was fantastic! Booked a double room for £82 through bookings.com. B&B. Lovely hotel in the centre of Ambleside village. Staff very pleasant and attentive. Leisure facilities very good pool, sauna, gym. Only had breakfast which was excellent full freshly cooked english and help yourself to cold stuff, make sure you are down and eating before 9.30 as they clear everything away at... more

Booked on best western web for our anniversary. We were allocated a room at the front of the hotel with double bed.( could do with a kingsize !) There was a card wishing us a happy anniversary, which was a nice touch. The hotel is spotless, staff very efficient and approachable. The breakfast is lovely, buffet style for cereals etc... more

We stayed for 3 nights in the Salutation Hotel in Ambleside in September 2007, the hotel was excellent, great location for exploring the Lake District, the service is excellent, including the breakfasts, the staff couldn't be more helpful and the room we had was spotlessly cleaned daily. We will certainly be returing to this hotel. more

Great location situated in the heart of Ambleside.Our room was very clean.however it was very small & stuffy. Good choice for breakfast & evening meal,menu quite good value although desserts were very overpriced for what you got.Would stay there again,but asking for bigger room. more

We usually stay in the Lake District at least twice a year but this is our first time in Ambleside. We had a quick look round the hotel last year - after the refurbishments to check if it was for us! We stayed at the Salutation for the weekend (sat &sun). It is in a great location if you want to be in the town and we had a lovely view over the town and the hills beyond. the room was an average size and was clean, the bathroom looked like it had been recently done and had a jet spa... more
