We had a lovely weekend here & are planning to return in December. The hotel was warm & cosy with nicely kept public areas & a lovely, spacious, cosy bedroom with large well appointed en-suite. The room was at the front with a lovely Regency balcony but was still nice & quiet. The food was really lovely, much better than we've... More

Mix up on the booking. Expected to hang up our own coats. Waitress at the bar actually said to me "write down your name as I am too lazy"! Food well presented but not very good quality or tasty. Decor old fashioned. When we asked for a taxi we were told to go to the bar to get one.... Halfway... More

Excellent hotel just outside the town centre. Although not in Ambleside we found it ideally located between the lake and the town, 10 minutes walk to each. The room was a good size, had a large en-suite with bath and shower. We had a room with a balcony overlooking the well kept gardens to the front. I suspect the rooms... More

We booked this hotel because of the reputation of being a family friendly hotel but unfortunately not as child friendly as I had hoped. Another selling point was the balcony on a superior room, unfortunately the balcony isn’t private and the furniture on it was pitiful. Breakfast is poor with undercooked eggs, no matter how you have them, and there... More

Dear Jab0mal. I am very disappointed to here that your stay did not meet your expectations and that we could not provide the quality and experience that you were looking for. With regards to the dripping noise, boiler noise and low power shower these are all things i will look into as they need to be rectified, they have not... More

We were delighted with a two day break (via Travelzoo) staying at Rothay Manor. The quality of the food and the service was first class. Our standard room was a good size, the bed was very comfortable and the housekeeping staff were zealous in their duties. The centre of Ambleside was an easy, er, amble from the hotel and we... More

I took my husband to the Rothay Manor for his birthday. We were very impressed with the food and the attentiveness of the staff. The selection of food for breakfast was excellent and every thing was very fresh. Finnan haddock was a treat for breakfast and the home baked bread at dinner time was delicious. More

Wonderful staff from the time of booking to end of our stay. We booked a short stay with our teenage children. The rooms were spacious, spotless and comfortable and the food was very good indeed. Most of the hotel guests were elderly (who knew of the hotel's good reputation) and we were teased by our teenagers for choosing a "Miss... More

Dear MrsMKent, Thank you for your very kind review. We are glad you and your family enjoyed their stay at Rothay Manor and that your children enjoyed using the wi-fi, HD tv and i-pod dock. Didn't stay at the Rothay Manor, just went for Afternoon Tea as a birthday treat from my family. It was Lovely. Staff were attentive and friendly.
