We have now stayed at the Forestside four times, the first time because we wanted a cheap hotel and they were offering a pay for one night and get the next free. We, immediately felt at home and had a fabulous weekend, the staff there headed by Dave and Shelley could not have made us more welcome. The last time... more

We booked this hotel through "take time out", the one night stay was a present from my daughter for Mothers Day, when we arrived at the hotel, it did look quite impressive, however, when we checked in we were advised that we were booked into a room in the annexe. On entering the room the first thing that entered my... more

I would like to take a few moments to address the issues the reviewer has raised. Take Time Out are an organization that runs a promotion called “One Night Free”. This offers free accommodation for one night with no obligation to take meals. They offer the promotion through companies as part of incentive schemes. We are now in our third...

my husband and i stayed at the forest side hotel wth some friends on the may bank holiday weekend and had a brilliant time. The hotel is wonderful and where ever you sit, be it in the lounge or dining room you have the most amazing views from which ever window you look through, it is so peaceful and relaxing.... more

This hotel just gets better, spent a superb weekend here enjoying the "Murder Mystery Weekend". Excellent value! Great wholesome Lake District meals (no pretentious Michelin stars here thankfully) and an extremely well plotted and organised weekend of sleuthing . The hotel offers a great location for walks or for just sitting and enjoying the atmosphere of an extremely friendly hotel... more

recently stayed at this Hotel, very impressive on arrival lovely building. The bedroom was very tatty in dire need of decoration peeling wallpaper on the ceiling. The room was never cleaned properly or beds made up. The room was above the kitchen the noise from early morning was dreadful. The sitting room was like a youth hostel no wonder the... more

We visited Forestside in November, worried re some of your reviews, read after we booked. It turned out to be the most welcoming hotel we ever stayed in, and we mean, across the world, and all gradings. Yes, refurbishment is gradually taking place, and more to be done, however, we were warm, relaxed, and nothing was too much trouble for... more

I can highly recommend this hotel, my friends and I had trouble finding accomodation and the Forest Side not only accomodated us but went out of there way to make sure my disabled friend had a room that was wheelchair friendly. The food is very good and the staff are really really nice. Congratulations Forest Side, We'll be back. more

Forest Side is absolutely the perfect place to stay, set just back off the A591, in the heart of the Lake District set in 43 acres of land with their own wildlife. The hotel is, although overwhelming at first, lovely and comfortable with a very welcome reception from the Husband and Wife management team, as with all the staff. Home... more

The Forest Side does look impressive from the outside, but don't be misled by the advertising, particularly with regard to the 40 acres of grounds, with badgers and squirrels. We attempted to walk around the grounds, but there are no set paths, no waymarkers, some steps are not sound, and I don't think any effort has been put into making... more

Forestside is on a quiet wooded slope east of Grasmere (rather than Ambleside). There are many tales of woe concerning British hotels on Trip Advisor - moldy bathrooms, hidden charges on the bill, etc - but I actually have a good story to tell here about this hotel. I arrived on Sunday May 29 and spent the afternoon walking from... more
