It would appear that regular visitors become the in -crowd while unknown guests are ignored. Not once during our 3 night stay did the management make any attempt to be friendly or even acknowledge our presence-maybe because we didn't have a dog in tow! Starters and main courses were excellent but puddings not of the same standard. Rooms need updating.... more

Stayed at this hotel over New Year. Food excellent - wine excellent but perhaps a bit pricey. New Year was a special package and the staff and management were excellent in the way they looked after all the guests. The area around the hotel is well known to me and we had a brilliant walk on New Years Eve which... more

Myself, partner and little dog stayed at the Skelwith Bridge Hotel for 4 nights DB&B just before Easter. We were very lucky with the weather, sunny every day. The hotel is fantastic, food plentiful, good variety and always hot. The service was excellent, the staff very friendly and polite. The little dog was welcomed by the hotel and he thoroughly... more

Booked a long weekend at the Skelwith Bridge as a family celebration in Feb 2008. Meant we had to accommodate a wide range of tastes for all ages. Hotel is well located for walking, public rooms and bedrooms are a little 'homely' but bar and dining room and some of the bedrooms recently renovated. Food really excellent in terms of... more

Our first stay at Skelwith Bridge and definately not our last. We booked deluxe room and was given a four poster, large and nicely decorated - spa bath was nice after a long walk. Location was good, out of town but in an area we wanted to walk. Food was excellent - the breakfast perfectly cooked to order, and plenty... more

This review is a reaction to that of Jenos who appears to have visited around the same time as my wife and I. Contrary to Jenos' experience we found the food piping hot and excellently cooked, both the duck and lamb were slightly pink just as we like it. Our room, which was a deluxe, was very comfortable with a... more

The hotel itself is very nice, warm and friendly. The location is excellent as you are away from the busy crowds and isolated. The staff are very happy to help and in the main, they are very friendly (save for a gumpy receptionist who may be the owner...). The open fires and the bar are great to come back to... more

Having stayed regularly for the last twenty years I felt it is time we gave a review. Quite simply out of all the places we have stayed UK, Europe,USA , and further afield, the Skelwith Bridge remains our favourite hotel. If anyone can tell me a more friendly or better value place to stay, in a great location please email... more

I used to stay regularly at this hotel in the 1990's but had not frequented its doors with a child in tow. My husband, daughter (9) and I went for a walking break in July 2007. The hotel had not changed much - same welcoming atmosphere as ever. The rooms had been updated and the dining room had been decorated,...... more

We booked the hotel having read the previous reviews and stayed for two nights. Overall it is a very pleasant hotel - friendly staff, clean rooms and a good location in the Lakes. The food was very good, plenty of choice and good sized portions. Maybe slightly lacking in flair, but looked to be popular with the guests. The majority... more
