Stayed at the churchill's on the weekend of 21st of sep, yes we to were invited to the private function which turn out to be one of the owner's wives 40th birthday, And must say we were made to feel most welcome, ok it did go on longer than they told us but overall the stay at the churchill's was... more

Ambleside is a fantastic place to stay, its a shame the same can not be said about Churchills Hotel. On arrival the staff made no mention of a private function being held during our stay on the Friday night. We were kept awake until 4am by the owners private party and had no apology the next day. When we did... more

My husband and I have just returned from a week-end break at the Churchills Hotel, Ambleside. What a disapointment! We arrived approximately 7.40pm on the Friday night expecting to be able to dine at the hotel only to be told "chef only serves until 8pm". After a quick shower and change (in the executive room - not my idea of... more

We arrived at the hotel a bit worried. The car park was a tight sqeeze but we never got blocked in. The scaffolding made the hotel look grubby. The staff were very helpful and we got shown around when we checked in. Our room was on the second floor facing the car park and we had a very great view... more

Refurbished, clean & comfortable hotel rooms, a few minor snagging problems. Staff very helpful & friendly. VG basic english breakfast. Residents pub Monty's Bar with log fire. Town Centre Location with Private car park at rear. No good for people who can't climb stairs. Very busy smoky main bar with entertainment, noise didn''t travel to our room located on 3rd... more

I am still in the process of trying to get my money back from this ghastly hotel! Following several complaints about the hotel and its owners/management, we were invited to leave with a full refund which we eagerly agreed to. Sadly, the following day, on checking our account we found that when we had presented our card for the refund,... more

O.K the car park is a bit tricky and you may check in in a busy bar whilst a footy match is on, like we did,but we were seen to quickly and efficiently by the staff and were soon in our room. We were on the second floor and we couldn't hear a thing from the bar downstairs. The rooms... more

Having read the previous reviews I was somewhat worried about my upcoming stay at the Churchill. I agree that the carparking was a squeeze, but this is the centre of Ambleside, what do you expect. There is no reception area and yes you do have to book into your room at an area at the end of the bar. The... more

I was really worried about staying here after reading the other reviews but I was very pleasantly surprised. The matter on which I agree with the other reviewers is the car park, it isn't very good at all, very difficult to get in and out of. Aside from that though it was great! Fab location, friendly staff, immaculate modern room.... more

£75 per room per night is dreadful value for what is essentialy rooms above a pub. 4th floor room was small - no lift - no soap or shampoo. Nightmare of a car park - easy to get blocked in - access by very narrow lane - may have to reverse out. Breakfast was good as was the location but... more
