Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

5 Star ⭐️ from the moment we arrived! Kevin and Tracy was excellent made us feel welcome and recommended places to eat and drink. The breakfast was 12 out of 10, by far the best breakfast I’ve ever had. The place is spotlessly clean and the bed was so comfortable. We can’t wait to come back and stay at the Melrose and next time longer. Recommend to anyone In every single aspect of the stay.

This was the second time we had stayed at Melrose Guesthouse and it's now the only place we would stay when visiting Ambleside. We have stayed at many B & Bs over the years when visiting the town and this is the best by far. Tracey and Kevin are warm and friendly hosts and the breakfasts are excellent. Everywhere throughout the guesthouse is spotlessly clean and finished to a high standard. Our room was spacious and comfortable with a super king-size bed and two comfy chairs to relax in. The bathroom was modern and with a great shower. Location is central for all the amenities in Ambleside and there is secure parking. Highly recommended!

This has to be the nicest accommodation we have ever stayed in. Immaculately clean, up and beyond. Tracey was lovely, welcoming, friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. Even to the point of noticing we had bottles of beer in the room and provided an ice bucket , this was a lovely surprise/gesture on our return to the guest house. The location is fantastic, everything on walking distance. Breakfast was beautiful , very large portions to set you up for the day. Rooms were spacious, extremely well looked after and spotlessly clean. Secure parking 5 minute walk away if that. We stayed in room 8 which was beautiful. Definitely staying here again. Highly recommended.

What an excellent Guest House! I've just stayed here for a week again - last week in Oct (3rd year running). Tracey and Kevin are lovely hosts. The quality of the rooms and bathrooms is excellent. And the breakfasts (and service) are 5 star. I'll always come back.

we stayed here as a joint celebration, my husbands birthday and our friends wedding anniversary, and we couldnt possibly have chosen better. the hosts are lovely, very friendly and welcoming. the location is perfect as its very central. our car was parked in a secure car park so we felt confident it would be safe. the room quality is excellent, our party had 2 rooms which were both clean, modern, spacious and felt high quality. the breakfast was great, with our party sampling various offerings on the menu and none of us were disappointed with our choices. the lovely touch from the hosts of birthday and anniversary chocolates in our room, and the request to place a bottle of fizz in their fridge was no problem and was even brought to our room in an ice bucket with flutes. we would most certainly stay here again, there was nothing we could fault. thank you

We had a perfect two nights at Melrose. Kevin and Tracy are the perfect hosts and seem to have thought of everything for a comfortable, pleasant stay. We had Room 1 which was one of the most comfortable rooms I've ever stayed in. After a killer hike in cool, damp weather how lovely to be able to come back to our cozy room and put on the kettle. Breakfasts are ordered the day before and are very good. We would love to be able to return!

I stayed for 4 nights at the Melrose and cannot recommend this guesthouse enough. The rooms are spotlessly clean and well appointed. Clearly the owners have put a lot of thought and effort into the Melrose and take a great deal of pride in it, which they deservedly should. I would happily stay again.

Stayed at the Melrose Guesthouse with my friend, as we were climbing Mount Helvellyn, and wanted to stay locally. The double room was well furnished, very cosy and comfortable, had a great nights sleep both of the nights, and the room was very clean, and spacious. Breakfast was also excellent, well cooked with a wide range of choices. The guesthouse was in prime location in Ambleside, which made it easy to visit local restaurants and cafes but was also close to Helvellyn and ” other walks - including Loughrigg Fell. Overall our stay was excellent, and I would highly recommend to anyone visiting the Lake District!
