Just like to say thanks Paul for a perfect stay...we will return more
We stayed at the guesthouse before moving on to Scotland for the rest of our honeymoon and of all the places we stayed and some were lovely, this was by far the best. It was so romantic and a couple got engaged when we were there. Its just that sort of place. Paul doesn't interfere but is there if you... more
The waterwheel is in an excellent location in the heart of Ambleside with lots of character and charm. The rooms are lovely (we got to have a peak in all three) and all appropriately priced depending on your choice of room. We stayed in the Rattleghill with the heavenly deep claw footed bath with endless hot water, perfect for after... more
The Waterwheel guesthouse is situated down a narrow cobbled passageway and next to a stream which runs through the village. The eponymous (stationery and badly neglected) waterwheel is actually attached to a building on the opposite side of a small stream. Car parking is a problem and is a short walk away in the village centre car park though you... more
We stayed in the Stockghyll room - a lovely green (and therefore very calming!) room with a view of the waterwheel. Really spacious bathroom (loved the heated floor!), friendly hosts and tasty home-cooked breakfasts. Excellent location - central, yet tucked away. All in all a good find! more
What a fantastic find! We stay in Ambleside frequently with our children so on finding ourselves childless (for one night only!) we thought we would try somewhere different that is not necessarily child-friendly! Having read the many glowing reports on Trip Advisor we decided on the Waterwheel as it seemed to tick all the boxes for a romantic getaway! It... more
We stayed at the Waterwheel between Christmas and New Year and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The rooms are spotless and considering our room, Loughrigg, was up in the attic it was quite spacious. The bed was exceedingly comfortable and there was lashings of hot water for the bath. Breakfast was delicious, particularly my porridge and the cooked breakfast was, according... more
My partner and I stayed at the Waterwheel in November 08 for a short break. I can only describe the weekend as idealic! Everything at the Waterwheel was way beyond our expectations. From the warm welcome, after being stuck in traffic after a long journey, to the cosy, clean bedrooms and delicious breakfast. Both Lyn and Steve went to every... more
Firstly the positives: the B&B is a really characterful old (listed) building on a beautiful cobbled alley by the river, and is right in the heart of Ambleside (all shops and restaurants are within a few minutes walk which is great for easy evenings out). The manager (Steve) and his wife were welcoming and unobtrusive, and the breakfasts they prepared... more
Sorry to have caused disappointment. Perhaps we have become a bit complacent after all our glowing reviews. So please accept our apologies. Now that the busy season has ended we are giving the cottage a thorough going over. The room was a bit "tired" and in need of perking up. This we will do this month(November 2008) and bring back...
