When I think about the best aspects of the Old Posting House, the excellent service and quality of meals have to get the first mention. Based in a historic building that was of value to the local community, Mick, the proprietor, has developed this small restaurant, bar and bed and breakfast facility to fully meet the needs of locals as... Stayed overnight at Old Posting House, Cockermouth - have to say from the outside was a bit apprehensive but once inside the bar/dinning area was very welcoming - couldn't believe the collection of teapots - the room was very clean and comfortable, had a proper hair dryer and several nice touches which you just don't get on the big chain... A warm welcome and a very comfortable big bed awaits you at the Old Posting House. Rooms are pleasant with en-suite shower room and toilet. My husband enjoyed a generous Cumbrian breakfast. Our host was friendly and most helpful ensuring our stay was as enjoyable as possible. Highly recommended on our short visit to The Lakes

Overnight business stop. Excellent evening meal in pleasant welcoming surroundings. Immaculately clean bedroom with en-suite shower room and everything needed for a comfortable stay. Breakfast was large and delicious. I will definitely be returning both on business trips and socially with my husband. Some lovely surrounding areas that I'd like to explore further. Nice to see the cute lambs in... More

Friends recommended the Old Posting House and it was a pleasant surprise. Without a recommendation,i probably would have driven past this inn without giving it a second thought. Our server was efficient and competent. My entree, chicken, leek and ham pie, was delicious. Other entrees at the table included fish pie, haddock and gammon steak. All were generous portions, more... More

This is in "Britstops" as a free overnight stop for motorhomes. We parked at the rear of an adequate car park and made ourselves known to the management. We were welcomed, and ordered drinks and a meal. The atmosphere was welcoming and we enjoyed a fine chicken curry. We had fine real ale/ wine to accompany the generous portions. It... More

My family and I eat at the Old Posting House on a very regular basis and would advice the public who are reading these reviews to ignore any negative comments. Coming from someone who has tasted the food there many times I would HIGHLY recommend it. The staff are absolutely lovely and the owner can never do enough for you... More

Our second visit to this excellent wayside guesthouse in 18 months and this time we made the trip especially to have another Mick experience. He's the owner and host who is as convivial as can be and it helps if you are as well, and he's not at all like your average pub landlord. A teapot collector extraordinaire, you could... More

Nothing great to look at from the outside but the inside has about 500 teapots absolutely everywhere but all lovely and clean. On first visit made to feel very welcome as it was not time for serving food but when we returned for food on a Tuesday evening a different story - bar staff not really sure what they were... More

Stopped for a drink and to ask about the quiz night. The staff were friendly. If you like tea pots, then this is the place for you! Hundreds of quirky teapots crowd the pub out. Didn't stay for a mean that evening, but seeing others food coming out, and looking so nice, we said we'd be back for the quiz... More
