We visited The Pheasant for the first time last year and have been back another three times this year which perhaps says it all. It's a warm and cosy traditional inn with the intoxicating smell of wood smoke in the air and lives up to the image such a description suggests, one which so many smaller country hotels aspire to.... more

I have been traveling to the UK for 20 years. The Pheasant is exactly what you would expect an English country inn to be - beautiful surroundings - tucked up under a mountain, lovely, comfortable but not fussy rooms, GREAT bathrooms, friendly staff that didn't hover, good ENGLISH food with a little European mixed in, nice pub that looks like... more

We arrived to work in the area and I was immediately shown to my room ...check in involved signing a large book..The room was small but lovely with tea and coffee making with fresh milk and a cafetiere..I wanted a swim so was given membership and directions to the beautiful spa five minutes away and spent the next hour in... more

This was our first trip to the Pheasant and was to celebrate our anniversary. As could only get away for one night, had to rely on late availability as they usually only take bookings for 2 nights (Fri/Sat). Stayed in the Garden Room, just over the road from the inn and the room was nice and big with a good... more

I had no problem at all with service or food or location, but surely a comfortable bed is essential. The small bedroom which we were given had a squeaky door and squeaky floor boards, but they were completely drowned by the extraordinary cacophony of noise which emanated from the bed as the result of the smallest of movements. Never again! more

I've been to the Lake District a number of times and have stayed at a range of places: from the fancy Holbeck Ghyll and Sharrow Bay to more lowly bed and breakfasts in Ambleside and Grasmere. The Pheasant turns out to be a very plesant mid-range hotel. If you expect a fancy country house hotel you will be very disappointed.... more

After feedback from my husband's family, who come from the Lake District, and Internet reviews we decided to try The Pheasant. If you are looking to getting away from the crowds of the Lake District The Pheasant is great as it is secluded (yet still easy to find). However, we were a bit disappointed with the rest of the hotel.... more

Stayed here for just a one night escape from the kids. Lovely atmosphere. Room was excellent. Comfortable bed, VERY strong powershower! These old inns can have a fusty atmosphere, but this place was warm and inviting. Log fires burning away in the lovely wooden paneled bar. Only problem was the waitress didn't seem to approve of us being the last... more

My wife and I stayed 1 night in The Pheasant Inn, which is just off the main A66 road between Keswick and Cockermouth in the Lake District. Having lived in the Lake District many years ago, we knew of it, but had never actually been in or stayed. It was so superb in every respect that we think it may... more

We had a wonderful stay at the Pheasant for four nights in July. It is a fantastic old pub with rooms. Our room overlooked the lovely garden and was very pleasant. Our son had a very nice single room. Both rooms had wonderful showers and comfortable beds. It is the perfect location for hiking and sightseeing in the Lake District.... more
