Just back from our fifth visit to The Old Rectory and in spite of the Lakeland rain, we have had a lovely break. The welcoming tea and cakes on arrival really set the atmosphere of The Old Rectory. The set evening meal had plenty choices and was delicious - Home cooked food at its best and very good value, with... More

comfortable room with a beautiful view of the mountains and surrounding countryside. Family run friendly staff, and dog friendly too ( Very important when you are walking in the lake district). Local pub just a short walk along the road.

Of all the wonderful places we visited during our visit to the Dales and Lakes, I have a particular fondness for Old Rectory. Located in a quiet area, the nearby town, pubs and walks are easily accessible. The room was clean, comfortable and sufficiently spacious for 2 persons with a very good shower/bath. The sherry on our dresser was a... More

The Old Rectory is a charming building and very warm and cosy. The view from the dining room is superb especially with the autumn colours. The welcome from Ann and her staff was lovely and nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious and thank you for dealing with a special diet so well.

Our room was very comfortable. The food was fantastic. The staff were friendly and helpful. We could not have asked for more. The view from the lovely light dining room is glorious - especially with the beautiful autumn colours. This is a wonderful base for exploring the Lakes. We will be back. Thank you for a lovely couple of days.

We enjoyed our stay very much .. our plan was to spend some days walking .. it is easy to walk the 2.5 miles to Coniston from here and it is very close to other more strenuous routes .. no need to take the car. Great breakfast which set us up for the day. Evening meals were varied, well presented and... More

We stayed in the Garden room to accommodate our 2 dogs. The beat thing I can say about The Old Rectory is that you have to try it. Ann and her staff really do go above and beyond the call of duty to make your stay a pleasant experience. The food, coffee, tea, flapjacks etc are all prepared with love... More

Anne is such a wonderful host. The cake and tea on arrival is lovely, especially when you have arrived after a long journey. The rooms are lovely and the setting is magnificent. Breakfast is a good start to the day and we have really found this a home from home. Thanks Anne and her staff, Kate & James Windsor

My wife, baby son and I stayed here for the weekend and had a wonderful time. Ann and her time are fantastic hosts. Nothing was too much trouble, even accomodating my 5:30am start on the Sunday. The rooms were great, excellent mattresses(!) and the food was outstanding. Can't wait to return...

We broke up our journey home from the Highlands of Scotland with a three night stay at this lovely old house set in beautiful countryside close to Lake Coniston. Owner and staff all looked after us well, from the welcoming sherry and flapjacks on arrival to one of the best breakfasts any of us could remember. Our dog too was... More
