Food was superb but let down hugely by the shockingly bad accomodation. £70 a night for a room over the bar with noise that went on well into the early hours. Way overpriced. yes en suite but shower broken and when i indicated this was a concern given we are in the Lakes and walking during the day the response... more

My wife and I were looking for a quiet romantic retreat to celebrate our first anniversary. I will not say she is fussy (‘cos she might be reading this), but this place delivered beyond even her expectations. What I will say is that the beauty of the surroundings was matched by the truly excellent quality (and quantity!) of the food,... more

6 ppl, 1 wheelchair for lunch. Good access, ample parking. Asked bar staff for 'place to eat' (i.e. eating area rather than bar) Was advised to try pub across the road (Wilson Arms) or go into Coniston !! The 6 copies of the menu were all missing pages 2-4 and mine had a hand drawing by a 5-year old on... more

The food is brilliant and very reasonably priced. We stayed here for three nights and enjoyed the good ale, food and the friendly staff. However, the accomodation seems a bit of an after thought, the room did have a certain old world charm but the fact that it was very noisy and that the shower was either burrning hot or... more

We went for a meal and it was fantastic - good basic food extremely well cooked. The dessert (creme brulee with accompaniements ) was fantastic. Aapparantly the chef/ owner ? has worked for David Bowie - photos in hall ..... what was aslo great was the atmosphere - the bar looks uhtouched and had a group of local farmers and... more

I completely agree with the previous reviewer RufusFrog. This place has really good food, and wonderful, friendly service. The manager was very nice, recommending some lovely walks to the lake and inviting us to Quiz Night in the pub--we were made to feel very welcome. Both dinner and breakfast the next morning were unusually good, especially the scallop starter at... more

Agree with previous posters that the accommodation itself is a bit basic - it looks a bit tired and it is as if the owners have done what they could with the bedrooms to improve them but without spending too much money on a proper re-fit. Still the price for bed and breakfast (£70 for 2 in a double room)... more

This place is such a 'character' it's hard to review it impartially. In some ways the accommodation is quite basic - the bathroom in Room 2 (a spacious double+single) is tired and very cramped with nowhere to even hang a towel - but efforts had been made to decorate the bedroom with taste, with prints, throws and scatter cushions in... more

Fantastic meals for Veggie and Carnivore, The service was great, making you more than very welcome. My wife's veggie Rissoto was gorgeous, followed by the sticky toffee pudding; mine was a proper suet Pudding, chips and peas, that there was too much of and the mussel starter was wow! I would not hesitate to recommend the Pub and Restaurant and... more

We were a large group of friends, and were made to feel extremely welcome. The bubbly landlady went out of her way to make our meal memorable in the very best way whilst not impingeing on other guests. As for the food... I have eaten less well for 3 times the price in Michelin starred establishments, 'excellent ' doesn't do... more
