Just back after a stay at the Black Bull Inn in Coniston. All i can say is that the staff are wonderful particuarly the owners. The hotel is comfortable and in a great position, only 10 mins from the lake. The breakfasts are fantastic. In addition they have their own brewery which is attached to the pub. Genuinely, the Bluebird... more

Just returned from a wonderful weekend here. We were looking for a dog friendly pub as we own a Chocolate Labrador and this place exceeded our expectations! We have stayed in pubs/hotels where dogs are welcome before but never like this. Although Meg (our dog) wasn't allowed in the restaurant, she was allowed in every other area of the bar... more

First visit to the Lake District. Chose the Black Bull due to the brewery. Room was a cottage out back. Woken at 7am every day by brewery workers. Room was clean and comfy. Shower was strong and hot! Breakfast was the best we've had anywhere. Plenty of it. Bar. Good, well served, selection of real ales. Evening menu was a... more

Arrived at the hotel soaking wet from a day's walking, and it was just what we needed. Comfortable room with much needed hot water in the bath and radiators. Real pull is the lovely beer which was well deserved and received after a long day on the Cumbria way! Food in the pub was good. more

I was looking for an old pub with good beer and better than basic accomodation with good walks nearby ... and I found all three. The majority of the rooms are at the back of the pub in a separate building, and I'm glad we got those rather than being above the pub itself. The room had great views over... more

I'm writing this in response to reading the reviews here so far. This used to be a 'regular' place for us - after Foot and Mouth we explored elsewhere, but felt guilty and so decided to go back in spite of the prices which had become a little 'silly'. We stayed in 'our' room in the Annex, and were pleased... more

We chose the Black Bull in Coniston, we had one of the cottages at the back. Again, I am happy to recommend it and not just because they brew the wonderful Bluebird Bitter behind the pub. The cottages have good sized en-suites, breakfasts are not for dieters, the full monty will keep you going all day. Good tourist centre, walk... more
