I have been coming to this hotel for many years and in November I organised a four day stay for a large group. Everyone I spoke to was very complimentary about the hotel and the location is perfect. The staff, as always, were incredibly helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The food is excellent. I have made another six... more

We arrived at this hotel as part of a group of 10 people staying for one night and being joined by another 12 for dinner, which was to be served in a delightful 'conservatory style' private dining room in celebration of my sister-in-law's 50th birthday. Oh, how we should have consulted these pages before allowing my brother-in-law to be seduced... more

Dirty, shabby, tired, bathroom. Breakfast described as hearty cumbrian was more like rations for the starving of africa. not a single english member of staff apart from the owner. we stayed in an upgrade to a superior room, which frankly made any travel lodge look like a 5 star. was going to try to negogiate a discount on check-out until... more

This is the text of a letter I wrote to the proprieter after our stay: My family and I returned yesterday from a short stay at the Wordsworth Hotel, which we thoroughly enjoyed. I am writing particularly to compliment the members of the hotel staff, who were universally charming, courteous and helpful. While the quality of the accommodation and food... more

Don't book a standard room as they are very dated, I don't mind chintz but the furniture was covered with a horrible bottle green plastic and the carpet was filthy. I complained and was offered a tiny single room or a room with a four poster bed but both alternative rooms were tiny and not any better. I ended up... more

This hotel looks amazing from outside, until you get to your room! Room was tiny, very hot and dirty. The carpet was worn, there was brown stains on the bed sheets, cigarette burns on the carpet. They gave us room 33, which is next door to the lift motor room, very noisy all night. Just under the window was the... more

This hotel is very quaint and pretty, with georgeous scenery. Me and my husband went for an Easter Break for two nights from the 21st March to 23rd March. We stayed in the Luxury Room, with Four Poster Bed and Jacuzzi bath. Decor very chinz but clean and warm and homely. Was so peacefull. Bath was great, horrendous colour (not... more

Reading some of the reviews this hotel seems to be like Marmite, you either like it or dislike it. My wife and I fall into the first category. We found the hotel a very comfortable stay for a long weekend. Our bedroom was cosy, warm and clean with plenty of clean towels and sundries. The staff were friendly and helpful... more

My husband and I have just returned from one of our "get off the hamster wheel" trips. I was a bit daunted by some of the reviews - didn't seem promising...But... This is a delightful hotel in a lovely location. The decor's a bit dated, nothing a lick of paint wouldn't cure, and the guests' average age is 70...the food... more

We booked the Wordsworth directly on the strength of two excellent Sunday lunches there-highly recommended but not a sure fire indicator of the health of the accommodation.!! As it was a group booking , the risk was even greater. Securing the booking was much harder than we thought -after all you would have thought a block booking of half the... more
