We've just returned from a wonderful long weekend at Lancrigg. We stayed in Silver Howe, named after the mountain it overlooks. The view was breathtaking, amazing to wake up to such an incredible vista. In fact, the location of this hotel could not be bettered. It is an easy walk to Grasmere town, but far enough out to feel secluded.... more

I was a bit worried after reading some of the other reviews on this site. However, I was pleasantly surprised and had a lovely three night stay at Lancrigg. It's location is brilliant; there are magnificent views, lovely grounds and Grasmere is only a 10 minute (pleasant) stroll away. The room (I was in Wordsworth) was quaint and old fashioned... more

My partner and I recently decided to spend our 7th anniversary at Lancrigg. We are both vegetarian so had been looking for a special hotel in the Lake District which offered some more interesting vegetarian food than the typical fare that is offered in non-vegetarian hotels. We both chose to stay in the cheapest room, called Kitty Crag, which is... more

I've known of the existance of Lancrigg Country House Hotel since around 1990 after seeing an ad in The Vegetarian Magazine, but it's taken me all these years to get round to going!!! I was waiting for a special occassion.......it never happened so I decided to make one! .......and I'm glad I did. It's a wonderful building with an interesting... more

We booked a two night stay despite some trepidation having read some previous reviews. Thankfully it was a risk worth taking. The room was okay and very clean. The only downside being that the bathroom was very cold, it was however a very cold two days. The decor throughout is pretty much 'shabby chic' although there was some redecoration going... more

My husband and I booked a stay at this hotel, and as vegetarians, were looking forward to luxury lakeland break with great cuisine (as had been described on their website) After a journey from Durham following a busy work day, we were impressed as we drove up the winding drive, through a tranquil woodland and caught sight of a lovely... more

My girlfriend and I stayed at Lancrigg earlier this year (19th - 21st Jan) in the Coleridge room. The weekend was a Christmas gift from my retired mother. We were slightly apprehensive because (unknown to my mother) we had stayed in the hotel in the year 2001. During that stay we found the room we stayed in to be very... more

we stayed here for one night in November in the Dickens room. Whilst the room may be a little flowery for me the room overall was perfectly placed with the hotel. The food was astounding. I am not a vegetarian, though my girlfriend is and i am very open minded to all food. The service was some of the best... more

I have returned home today after spending the weekend at this most beautiful house and had to add a review for such a wonderful stay. It was my first time to the Lake district, though i have heard many stories from my family and couldn't believe what a beautiful and magical place it was...the house is just a magical place... more

Don't whatever you do book the Kitty Crag Annex at Lancrigg. If your idea of fun is a dreary, tired old room round the back of the owner's accommodation then crack on. The room was damp, cold and run down and in need of a clean with dust on most surfaces. The wallpaper peeling from the ceiling and decor very... more

Management response from

I think the comment by ‘Veggie, Yorkshire’ that an evening meal at Lancrigg costs £40 sums up the whole of the rest of their lengthy article. An average fully certified organic and vegetarian meal, including coffee costs £25 - £30. In other words ‘V’ is painting a gross misrepresentation of Lancrigg with a seeming vendetta to discourage future guests and...
