My first impresssion was of a really beautiful place -the setting is superb and the entrance and lounges are elegantly furnished with lovely views, but the bedrooms are difficult to find - the corridors are like a maze, and I needed to negotiate at least five fire doors to get to my room. This was spotlessly clean, big bath towels,... more

Although we were very surprised to read the review, as this customer and the group she was with indicated that they had enjoyed their stay as they left we would like to take a few moments to address the issues. •We are an old Victorian building and the corridors are a little like a maze, however we do have clear...

I decided to book my 50th Birthday weekend at the Forest Side Hotel after a number of fantastic weekend breaks and holidays there. The staff are amongst the friendliest I have ever met and they work very hard at ensuring all their guests are comfortable and well looked after. I invited 32 guests to my birthday weekend, having live entertainment... more

Went on a group getaway holiday. Didn't quite know what to expect. The building is lovely, huge entrance hall and grand staircase leads up the rooms. Our room had a double bed and a single bed. Beds were comfortable. The bathroom was a bit small and basic but everything worked well. They have a drying room on the side of... more

We booked two rooms for a total of three nights, one superior doubel, one standard twin. Both had ensuite. The hotel is a smashing looking property in superbly kept gardens. We arrived on the monday to a friendly welcome and went to our rooms. Considering I had booked a superior double I was far from impressed. The views from the... more

I experienced a friendly and warm welcome when I arrived at Forest Side. A grand hotel that looks imposing when approaching, but informality is the order of the day. I personally find this is just what I want for a relaxing and fun break. I attend many hotels within my professional life where I expect stuffyness and formal service, so... more

In common with the majority of other reviewers of this hotel, we found the food to be very good and reasonably priced. The buffet breakfasts were truly excellent, with plenty of choice and the option to stuff oneself from the hot buffet to the extent that lunch was not necessary. It was also very nice to relax by the fire... more

Forest Side was built in 1854 and shows its age in places. The grounds have seen better times and in order to meet modern fire regulations there are too many obstructive fire doors. That said the staff are friendly and very helpful and the public rooms very cosy and comfortable. Our bedroom was a disappointment. It was on the top... more

We stayed here for a long weekend and it greatly exceeded our expectations. what great fun. this family run hotel was extremely friendly, relaxed, clean and well organised. All the food was excellant, in fact we have stayed all over the country and abroad and never come across such consistantly excellent food, all homemade. The owners were real characters very... more

This Hotel may not have been awarded any stars but it more than makes up for it with an excellent location, good rooms and superb helpful staff. Been here several times and Shelley and Dave always make their guests welcome with a friendly professionalism that most "named" hotels could only dream to achieve. If you want stars and a standard... more

The management and staff were very friendly and welcoming. The room was basic but perfectly adequate and the food was very good (especially the breakfasts). It was the perfect antidote after several hard weeks at work. The laid back atmosphere appealed to us, it is not a formal hotel. It is only a few minutes walk from the centre of... more
