Very nice two night stay at The Red Lion, Hawkshead. We took up the Booze and Snooze offer that can be seen on their website. This was good value for money (especially the free bottle of wine!). Great location and base for our walk up The Old Man of Coniston and our visits to nearby Ambleside and Grasmere. Hawkshead is... More

We have visited Red Lion Inn for the past 2 months!. You know why? Because it feels like coming home! Very friendly staff, who could not do enough for you, lovely homemade food- do try their home made lasagne- it is delicious! Fantastic relaxed atmosphere , and no sour faces, whether it is raining or the sun is shining! Very... More

We have just stayed for 2 nights at the red lion in hawkshead and would definitely return. Paul and Lynn were very welcoming and we had our dog with us who was also spoilt rotten. The room maybe needed a refurb but the food and friendliness made up for this. The gammon is to die for and the other meals... More

Just arrived back home after a mini break at the Red Lion. We had a lovely experience. Very friendly people run the place, rooms clean and tidy, and comfortable. Nothing seemed to be a trouble to the staff. When I saw the previous reviews, I wondered if they had stayed at he same Inn! The building is the oldest Inn... More

Stayed here as a party of 4 for 2 nights on a reasonably priced meal/accommodation package. Expected small bedrooms so no surprise in finding that's what we'd got, although the bathroom was especially tiny in one of them. Ugly view of the pub roof from our window but as we were wanting a place to sleep and not a viewpoint... More

Four of us arrived for a meal around 7pm in the evening. Three of us ordered Surf and Turf [our other party guest had Cumbria Sausage]. Not only were the pieces of steak cut in pieces of around 2 inches, and approximately three bits of this per person which we found odd, but you could have soled your shoe with... More

The red lion was the worse dining experience I have had, the food was of a low standard ,the steak was so tough it could easily have been stewing steak. Whilst eating our meal a very vicious snarling teeth baring Rottweiler was only four feet away so we were unable to relax and enjoy our evening. We had to leave... More

Our favourite pub in Hawkshead! Dog and kid friendly, gorgeous real fire, fine selection of ales, comfy settees and friendly staff. Big tv for footie matches too....a definite pub to visit. It's also very handily located to the shops.

Stayed overnight at The Red Lion on 09/04/2013. What a a superb little family run hotel. Made extra special by husband and wife Paul and Lynn. Very welcoming atmosphere and by far the most spacious bar in Hawkshead. Food was of a very high standard. We had our evening meal there and breakfast the following morning and could not fault... We stayed here back in December 2011 and enjoyed our evening meal and superb cooked breakfast. We called in for a meal March 2013 and were very disappointed. Excellent location and good atmosphere in the main bar area. CAN DO BETTER RED LION !
