Hawkshead is a great place to stay with easy access to lots of wonderful walks. The Red Lion is a lovely cosy pub with great friendly atmosphere. We arrived on a very cold January evening and was greeted with a warm welcome by the very friendly bar staff. The bar staff are very helpful, including giving good advice on the... More

Arrived on Friday to a well earned pint and a hearty evening meal and the Red Lion did'nt let us down, the beef and ale pie was delicious and the beer quenshed our thurst and it did'nt stop there. We spent the whole weekend being entertained with excellent music, good food and excellent ales. Our hosts were friendly, approachable and... More

Just returned home from another great weekend in Hawkshead, spent at the Red Lion Inn. My fiance arranged a surprise birthday party for me with his son, his son's girlfriend, his daughter and her boyfriend and his mam. Lynne allowed us the use of the breakfast room, where my surprise was set. We had a lovely meal followed by the... More

Have just returned from a group walking weekend in the Lakes where our party of 12 fellas stayed at the Red Lion run by Paul and Lynn. I have to say everything about the place is excellent. From the greeting we received on the Friday to the quality of the ale, to the high standard of the locally sourced food,... More

We found The Red Lion during our stay in the Lake District and went there two days in a row for the same lunch - fish and chips (better than any we have had here at home in Cornwall!). The food was excellent and the bar staff were friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend lunch here before or after... More

A great place to stay for a couple of nights. The rooms are clean, and have new bed linen and towels, but are a little bit tired. That wouldn't stop us going again. Hopefully, next time the new owners will have made some improvements. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, and the breakfasts were terrific. More
