We found The Red Lion during our stay in the Lake District and went there two days in a row for the same lunch - fish and chips (better than any we have had here at home in Cornwall!). The food was excellent and the bar staff were friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend lunch here before or after... more

A great place to stay for a couple of nights. The rooms are clean, and have new bed linen and towels, but are a little bit tired. That wouldn't stop us going again. Hopefully, next time the new owners will have made some improvements. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, and the breakfasts were terrific. more

If you do want to stay in a traditional English pub with bags of character you will struggle to better the Red Lion. The room was delightfully “Olde Inne” with Oak Beams and uneven walls, more importantly clean and tidy with plenty of hot water not matter what time of day. The breakfast!!! Well the Full Lakeland was large enough... more

We have mixed feelings about our stay at the red lion inn . The inn is in a great location in the village , and all the staff were great . The room however did not come up to the standard we were expecting , the furniture was tired (very) , the carpet was minging and i had loose wall... more

Friendly welcome upon arrival and were taken through check in promptly and shown to our four poster room. Room had a newly refurbished shower room which was compact but had a fabulous power shower. Bed was firm but comfy with nice new linen and a good pile of fluffy towels lay neatly arranged on top. Decor was simple and traditional... more

The pub and rooms were in the course of being decorated and it appeared that the owners are trying hard to bring the place up to scratch, but the fact is that it's small and historic so the basics are not going to change. The staff are all very polite, friendly and helpful. Breakfast is excellent. It is well located... more

We had a great weekend, and would recommend it to anyone, the new owners are making this hotel a lovely escape from the tourist traps of the Lakes. Full of old world character in a delightful and relatively unspoiled village. more

New owners Lynn and Paul have transformed this Inn into serving excellent home cooked and prepared locally sourced food at reasonable prices. Our room was clean and comfortable. There is a good social mix of locals and visitors and the bar has plenty of banter, laughter, (especially if the owners are having a "domestic") and excellent real ale. It may be... more

I have regularly visited this hotel with family for about 10 years. It is a major benefit that it is a privately owned hotel. It shows in the prices and bar prices particularly it is excellent value for money compared to most of the hotels I stay at when work are paying. The hotel's public areas and bed rooms are... more
