Even a power cut in Keswick just before breakfast didn't phase the owners and staff! Had a wonderful stay- the reception, the meal, the organisation and the attention to detail made our aunt's birthday celebrations very special. Thank you for making us all so welcome- hotel sophistication that felt like home. Wonderful. Taking over the whole hotel for a family... More

I would like to add that the party had a most enjoyable stay and that the review by the Curates Egg was only the view of one individual. More

Many thanks for your most welcome thoughts on a previous review given by one of your party - it was always clear from the initial review that there was more than a hint of maliciousness in the comments. However, having your endorsement say's everything of your stay, for Kath and i take enormous pleaure in trying to fulfill what we... More

Myself and my wonderful husband Ryan have just enjoyed a quiet 2 night stay at Swinside. WOW! Excellent in every which way. The food was unbelievable and much better than I'd expected, all the credit must go to Clive the chef!. Laurent was the perfect host too and very helpful. We will definately be coming back next year as it's... More

Sixth visit in two years and standards remain top notch every time, friendly, warm, helpful. Could not stay more than a few days at a time as the food is too good for the waist line in spite of marvellous local ( straight out the door) walking etc. More

We have just had 3 nights at Swinside Lodge. The food was excellent, beyond our wildest dreams for the price. Kath, Mike and Laurent were attentive and did everything to make our stay perfect, even giving me a lesson on how to walk with poles. It was certainly not a problem that dinner was a set menu. It was beautifully... More

We have just returned from a fantastic 2 nights at Swinside Lodge. This is a beautiful property only 2 miles outside Keswick in the most beautiful rolling hills. It's a small country house hotel owned and run by a small team of 4 people and it runs like clockwork without feeling regimented in any way. The lounges and dining room... More

The forecast said that a good weather slot was coming up and reviews said that Swinside Lodge was worth a visit. We were fortunate to be able to book one of two available rooms, for an exceedingly pleasant and relaxing two-night stay. The welcome was just right, the room equally so, and dining was a relaxing smart casual pleasure. As... More

We've just returned from a Friday/Saturday night stay here and have to say everything was perfect. The food (both breakfast and dinner) was amongst the best we've eaten with everything cooked to perfection. The location is perfect with excellent walks at your doorstep, a pub round the corner and Keswick a boat ride away. The owners (Mike and Kath) are... More

We stayed at the Swinside Lodge in August 2011 as a surprise to celebrate our engagement. The hotel is beautiful, in a fantastic location with great walks, views and close to Keswick. We walked to Keswick from the hotel, Mike was very knowledgeable in recommending some great walks. The staff were extremely helpful and made us feel so welcome and... More

Last night at home we opened a bottle of Argentinian Malbec - under £6 a bottle. It was vastly superior to anything we drank at Swinside. Indeed, if you pay less than £30 a bottle you'll get plonk wine. £18.50 is the cheapest - and it's awful, despite the glowing blurb and Kathy's witter. The accomodation is OK - but... More

Many thanks for taking a little trouble to post a review, a little disappointing given the fact your travelling friends offered their thanks for an enjoyable stay. I'm not so certain drinking a glass of our house wine would qualify me or anyone else to have a meaningful opinion on any of the other wines on our list under £30... More
