found this on the web, and although at the top end of our budget decided to treat ourselves. Have been spoilt for anywhere else now. the main hotel is everything you want from an old fashioned country hotel, comfy beds, friendly courteous staff, and wonderful food. as good as any city hotel. Moving over to the spa leads you into... more

This is a review that I wrote about Armathwaite Hall for a national newspaper. Set in 400 acres of park and woodland, with breathtaking views of Bassenthwaite lake and mountains, Armathwaite Country House Hotel and Spa is an idyllic retreat. A beautiful 11th century manor with cosy log fires and lake view restaurants, coupled with a brand new state of... more

Unfortunately we couldn't afford the total luxury of Wynn and Bellagio so opted for the next best thing Excalibur. How long are you in your own hotel ........... exactly , about 8hrs while you sleep and one hour while you get ready to go out. Money well spent i would say to stay in the Excalibur. Huge ,immaculately clean rooms... more

What an impressive and immaculate hotel; hidden away off the beaten track in its own grounds at the head of Bassenthwaite Lake. We spent 4 lovely stress relieving days/nights in its wonderfully relaxing ambiance. All of the staff were very welcoming, professional, attentive and pleasant. The room was just stunning with a huge and extremely comfortable bed, large double bath... more

Planning a very small wedding with no guests without travelling to somewhere exotic proved a little tricky for us until we found Armathwaite Hall. Nothing was too much trouble. We booked dinner bed & Breakfast in the Baustead Suite which was absolutely stunning with views over Bassenthwaite Lake. The day of the wedding everything was relaxed and went just as... more

Have stayed at Aramthwaite Hall many times and always enjoyed ourselves. This is the first time we have sampled the delights of the new spa and think it is the nicest health spa we have been to. We particularly enjoyed sitting in the outside infinity hot tub as the sun went down. more

This was our first visit. We stayed for 3 nights and it was just magic - everything we had anticipated.. The food was just superb and had the taste buds racing. Great care has obviously been taken in recruiting staff as without exception they were polite, friendly, helpful - nothing was too much trouble. The room was comfortable and the... more

We chose Armathwaite primarily because of the spa facilities on offer and the great review those got on TA. Other reviews were a bit diverse and I really wasn't sure what to expect. However the whole experience was great. We were there for two nights but barely left the lovely grounds (only went out to see Trotters animal park next... more

Living in the city and only 2 hours drive away, Armathwaite Hall is the perfect retreat for us when the stresses of work gets too much. We just put the dog in the car and before we know it, we can be walking in the fabulous grounds surrounding the hotel and along one of the paths leading down to Bassenthwaite... more
