I booked this hotel as it was the only one I could find offering me accommodation for one night – Saturday – the rest of the hotels in the Lake District only seem to want to accommodate you for Saturday and Sunday, but if you’re at work on Monday morning, staying on Sunday is impossible. So top marks for this.... more

i stayed at the derwentwater for a long weekend with my friends and what a long weekend it turned out to be. i have stayed here on several occasions over the years and was severely disheartened on this occasion. The hotel looked dirty and i found the welcome we received quite dissapointing. The "lady" (who it turned out was the... more

We stayed here for a long weekend and were very disappointed. We were allocated what must have been the last available room in the hotel which was designed for the disabled even though we are both able bodied. The room smelt foul. There was no chance of changing as the hotel was full. The chairs in the conservatory and bar... more

Lovely setting and peaceful. Breakfast OK. Dinner spoiled by main course which was just average compared with starter and dessert. Veg overcooked and out of season, meat tough. Too much much emphasis on presentation at expense of quality. Late diners couldn't always get their choice. Male waiters were excellent. Bedroom well decorated and bathroom very clean. Hotel in good order... more

After staying at the Derwentwater for many years we have seen the changes take place over the last few months, however, these changes do reflect upon the fantastic value for money I have to say. Although the food may well be bought in (i am not aware of this or not) they chefs seem to do a marvellous job with... more

I have been staying at this hotel since 1996 and always loved it, until Shearings took it over that is! There have since last year been lots of subtle-seeming changes, but they add up to a sense of disappointment among long standing guests and were the topic of conversation on this visit between almost all who had stayed before the... more

The person put off by not being able to ware shorts in the resaurant should re consider his own standards, I say bring back jackets and ties for gentlemen dining in the... more
