The experience of this hotel cannot be faulted, in our opinion. The service was excellent, the cuisine impecible, dogs accepted as valued guests and the hotel set down in a beautifully quiet corner of the Lake District. We couldn't ask for anything more. The views from the windows are superb, with red squirrel and deer to be seen regularly. The... more

This is a small dog friendly hotel which is in a beautiful tranquil location. The staff are friendly and efficient; they are discreetly efficient even down to remembering who ordered what when serving food. The food is elaborate but very good and the wine list very good. Rooms were well equipped with excellent bathrooms with good water pressure. Our only... more

We booked a weekend at this hotel because the website stressed that dogs were welcome and the location looked good. How we underestimated it!!! As we drove up to the hotel, I just couldn't believe how peaceful it was. The setting is really magical and our room was so comfortable. We booked the Garden Room so that we could take... more

We stayed in the overwater to celebrate our wedding anniversary, we were drawn by the location and provision for dogs,. The location is excellent to the North of the lakes in a very quiet and peaceful location; the external gardens are as good as stated we saw both deer and red squirrels on our morning walks. The room (1) was... more

We used to have a policy of always looking for somewhere new by way of a hotel, and seldom revisiting a location. That was before we discovered Overwater Hall a few years ago. The hotel first came to our attention when we were looking for a quiet hotel with a dog-friendly policy in West Cumbria away from the main touristy... more

What can I say? The office IS shambolic! Clearly we cannot be all things to all people, but fortunately the majority of our guests find that any expectations created by our web site are actually exceeded by the real thing. We are sorry that this was not the case on this occasion.

We were having our first weekend away from the children in ten years. Wherever we went, it had to be special. The Overwater Hotel did not disappoint anywhere. The room was clean, well equipped, well maintained and very spacious. Unlike a lot of hotels, you can open the windows and turn off the radiators if you don't like a hot... more

A very friendly welcome from Stephen on arrival. One freshly refurbished room, but one, next door, that was drab. As with other reviewers, our dog was made very welcome, and the staff tactfully encouraged an evil Jack Russell nearby to be put in its owners' car when it barked incessantly in their room after they'd gone down to dinner. Lovely... more

We had a great stay at Overwater Hall Hotel. It's beautifully positioned, quiet and secluded. We took our dog, who was made very welcome, and who met quite a lot of other very well behaved and well brought up canines! The hotel grounds are great for dogs, well away from any road and there are no silly rules such as... more

Firstly, thank you for reviewing Overwater Hall on TripAdvisor. You raise some interesting points in your review. To touch on just two of these points: Bathrobes are planned for our superior rooms, but due to "works in progress" in our laundry room (we are installing a wood-fuelled boiler ) they will not appear in bedrooms until end of April/early May....

The Overwater Hall Hotel is an ideal spot to "escape from it all" - very peaceful location with great views across unspoilt countryside. and the rare red squirrel happily considers the garden home! The room we had, room 2, had been recently redecorated and extended, I believe, with a small sitting area separated from the main bedroom. For the price,... more
