We stayed at the George for 2 nights Friday and Saturday. We had a room at the front of the hotel and it was horrendous. The noise of drunks outside the hotel continued until at least 02-30am. There is no double glazing so the noise wasn't even minimised. If we had had a room at the back it may well... more

Lovely hotel in the heart on the town. Only stayed here one night as attending a function locally. This hotel has all the mod-cons but still retains all its's charm and character it's like stepping back to a long lost era, the service is great however the few polish staff that were there struggled to understand us the rest were... more

We have been to this hotel many times and decided, at short notice to to go back. The hotel itself, although refurnished a few years ago, retains an old world charm and all through the day seems to be the meeting place for locals to meet with old friends of tea and cakes. We tend to ask for our favourite... more

The only thing positive about our stay in the George Hotel was the size of the room. We asked for a 3th bed, but this bed was way to small for a person of a normal size. We couldn't have diner in the restaurant, because they booked a group. In the morning we could't use the shower. A well known... more

This hotel didn't seem that cheap to us, and it wasn't, but I suppose I was expecting something mure plush for the money after some excellent guest houses costing half the price. This hotel is aimed at coach parties of older people - I think my parents would be happier with it than we were. Our room was rather tired,... more

Just a quick note to say what an excellent Christmas Break we had at The George Hotel in 2008. I spent a 3 day break here with my Father and can highly recommend it to anyone wanting a nice relaxed Christmas with excellent food and very friendly and helpful staff. Meals were excellent, offering a good choice each day and... more

I was staying here on business and immediately noticed the older vibe from this hotel as soon as I walked in, which was fair enough as I was here on business and not a stag weekend. The food was really nice and the staff friendly, but I wouldnt bring my girlfriend here to stay. There is nothing bad about this... more

My husband and I and two friends recently stayed at the George Hotel, the staff were very friendly, the rooms were a good size, modern and clean. The only downside to this hotel due to its age there is no lift, so if you're on the 3rd floor like we were and of a certain age its a bit of... more

Our Sunday night stay started well with an unsolicited room upgrade. The room itself was huge, seemed newly refurbished, comfortable, bathroom of similar standard, both sparkling clean. View was of a delapidated courtyard, but it was quiet. Bar food and breakfast both well-cooked and generous. Friendly, helpful staff. more

We are glad we booked this on an act of faith; however it had been mentioned in the Mail on Sunday. The manager and the banqueting staff in particular were marvellous. Good food, ambience and bedrooms added with a good New Years eve day on Ulllswater and Keswick town. Will miss the breakfasts!. beams and fires always make a good... more
