Nothing was too much trouble for the friendly staff at the hotel. The bar was welcoming, warm,(it was a snowy December night!) and our meal delicious. The room was delightful, very clean with added touches such as toiletries and biscuits. The fireplace and window seat added character and charm. The hotel dates from the 1670's and has lots of wonderful features,... more

i went for a meal and a look at the hotel, the meals were very expensive and very small my children's meals were bigger than mine. We were greeted by a very rude man who made us feel very unwelcome. we were told that it was a great place for families but we could not see why. more

I arranged to spend 3 nights and came to The Lakes for a wedding. I arrived late and was please with the welcome from staff. Breakfast was a treat, it was very filling and well prepared. The evening meal was fresh and enjoyable in the bar. The only aspect of the restaurant come pub that I did not like were the... more

This was our 5th stay at the Glen Rothay / Badger Bar in 18 months and the reason we keep coming back for more is simple: its a beautiful and enchanting hotel that is as quirky and charming as you can possibly wish for! To begin with, the location of the hotel is paramount to its appeal; situated adjacent to... more

The rooms definitely have character but need updating. The scenery and locale is fantastic - we loved the walk around Rydal Water. The beer was good and the staff generally pleasant and helpful. However, the food was appalling! Re-heated/microwaved mash, overcooked/re-heated sausages - steak with some sort of watery sauce with raw mushrooms - even the cooked breakfast was terrible,... more

The welcome from the beginning started to ring alarm bells – mainly because there wasn’t a welcome, just a 20 minute wait at a bar whilst everyone was getting served. The bedroom: As described, it was very large which also means it needed plenty of heat, and with the heating not coming on until 5 pm the room was very... more

This was the 4th time we have stayed at the Glen Rothay - the first time being on our honeymoon 22 years ago (we got married on the day Chernobyl blew up!). We have experienced several managements of the hotel, and this was by far the best! Everything about our stay was excellent - the food, the room (we stayed... more

We recently stayed at the Glen Rothay for a long weekend and found it to be a perfect base for exploring the Lakes District. The hotel has an onsite bar (called the Badger Bar) which does great pub grub and a brief stroll across the road leads to a beautiful walk along Rydal water. The staff were extremely friendly and... more

We stayed at the Glen Rothay over Good Friday and Saturday. My husband and I had the Grasmere room, which had a leak last year and smelt of damp. We couldn't change rooms as the hotel was fully booked. The room was ok. Nice big bathroom with a very deep bath, although after I had a bath, there wasn't any... more
