My boyfriend had booked us into one of the four poster bedrooms for a one-night romantic getaway. It didn't start well when we arrived at the hotel - the man at the desk was quite rude - couldn't find our reservation and seemed to be suggesting that was our fault - once he'd found that he told us the room... more

Stayed here for one night with friends. We decided on this hotel as we'd stayed at another ELH hotel, the Waterhead previously. The Famous Wild Boar hotel was undergoing some refurbishment in the reception area and they sent a letter ahead of our stay to inform us of this which was pretty good of them. However, that letter was about... more

Only stayed here for one night. Nice old fashioned hotel with good restaurant. Only criticism would be that the creaking floorboards and slamming doors and everyone walking backwrads and forwards past our particular room did not make for a very restful night, added to that our wooden framed bed was particularly creaky. In fact in the end you had to... more

Decided a break out of the city was needed, having been to the Wild Boar for dinner on many occaisions and loved it, finding accomodation on Laterooms was great. I rang the hotel directly only to be told that Laterooms should not be posting the rate as only one room was left in the entire Hotel, which was a suite.... more

Booked last minute on the internet DBB £171 - were upgraded to a very nice suite at no extra cost - the hotel has lots of character, which makes up for it being about 3 miles from Lake Windermere - the staff were excellent, seemed to be mostly students from abroad on gap year - food and ambience in the... more

Staying at this charming hotel many times as I have over the years I can not tell you how pleasing it was to see the improvenment in the bedrooms and in particular the bathrooms, ours was only refurbished two weeks ago. The truth is the hotel was looking very tired on our last couple of visits but even the corridors... more

We have often trying this hotel, but have always put it off. There was an excellent offer on for Dinner, bed & breakfast for two nights so we investigated tripadvisor. Reviews were not very good but we decided that for the price being offered (£120) and that it is a Best Western Hotel we made the booking. On arrival the... more

We stopped here in February of this year and were given a room initially in the extension. The bedding was dirty, the room stank and the paper was coming off the walls. The bathroom had mould around the window and on the curtains and was generally unclean. We were then given a room in the main part, above the kitchen... more

My wife and I stayed here in Oct 2004 and it was quite simply excellent. We have a habit of poor service in this country but this place thrives on extermely good helpful and HAPPY staff members. Being a relatively young couple ( 29 ) you usually find that these type of places try and appeal only to the walking... more
