We booked for a one night stay after noting the Restaurant is 24 in the Good Food Guide for 2009 and has a Michelin star. The location of the hotel is superb and our initial impressions were good although the room was a little dated, the lack of coffee/tea making facilities were a disappointment. The evening meal was good but... more

A great location and an excellent chef are the positives but for a hotel with its reputation it was disappointing overall. In particular the service was shambolic. Examples include telling the couple sitting next to us in the lounge that their table was ready when they had not even ordered yet. A couple of minutes later it transpired that it... more

We arrived in the middle of a wedding but quickly got shown to our room which was much more spacious then we were expecting. beautiful kitsh room and bathroom with every conveniance accept a fridge or tea making facilities. Beautiful terrace and views. Tea can be ordered in the lounge . this was more expensive than a five star hotel... more

As ever, I trust that my account, based on the expectation generated by the website, telephone conversation with a member of staff, the tariff and our actual experience, is objective, balanced and proves of particular interest to prospective visitors who are also wheelchair users. In taking some time out to celebrate our anniversary, and to avoid a repeat of the... more

This is the second visit to this hotel for my husband and I and we were expecting the same attitude from the staff. To us it looks as though all the restaurant staff have changed not for the better. The first time the maitre d'hotel knew our name and the rest of the staff were most attentive, not so this... more

This hotel is one of the 'gems' of this country. The location is superb with stunning views over the lake and surrounding countryside, if the weather is good, which it was for us, sitting on the terrace taking afternoon tea has to be one of the most pleasurable ways of spending time. Having stayed at this hotel several times, we... more

We stayed a night here in late March 2008 and had a wonderful room and evening meal; we particularly liked the residents' sitting room and the overall atmosphere, to say nothing of the glowing fire in our bedroom which was like a small suite/ annexe. Views and walks from the hotel are beautiful. We noted some poor reviews, mainly in... more

We needed some TLC and this is what we got - without asking Low key attention to detail such as addressing guests by name and even knowing which room you are occupying. Good views from the lounges and most of the bedrooms. The food is very good but be prepared to take 2 hours over dinner. We have never been... more

What a great place! OK, so it's not the cheapest place in the World (we stayed for 2 nights including dinner bed and breakfast and our bill came to nearly £1,000 after adding the cost of drinks and dog supplement!). However, as an experience it was second to none. The staff were extremely helpful. They do employ a lot of... more

Probably some of the worst value for money hotel experience we have ever had. My husband and I spent 2 nights there in May 2008 and actually had to walk out of the dinner and out of the hotel before the end of the stay. Totally unjustified Michelin stared restaurant and classification of luxury small hotels in the world. From... more
