My wife and I have just returned from a 4 night break at this hotel, and after reading the previous negative reviews, I was dreading our stay! Well all I can say is the previous complainers must have had there comments noted by the WA Shearing group ( The owners of this hotel) They seem to have rectified a number... more

Just returned from weekend stay - ignore bad reviews - clean, warm bedroom with constant hot water - good food with pleasant, helpful staff - only complaint was it requires ano comfortable lounge, with bar, as entertainment was only ok ( minor complaint) - we were well satisfied as our car broke down on way and our husbands had to... more

Returned today from a thoroughly satisfactory stay at this hotel. Clean, warm bedroom and bathroom (with constant hot water), good food, helpful local and foreign-born staff, within yards of information bureau, railway station and interesting stores, and within minutes by car of Lake Windermere and the fells. Admittedly not luxurious in any way and a bit shabby in places, but... more

Just got back from the Windermere & having read all the negative reviews can honestly say I don't know what all the fuss is about. The room we were allocated (48) was more than adequate, clean & brightly furnished. The meals were tasty & plentiful, staff/waiters very obliging. The hotel is situated some 1.5 miles from the lake at Bowness,... more

We stayed at this hotel as part of an Insight Tour. Of the entire tour, this was the one place that was completely unacceptable. It should be condemned and torn down. It is one of those places that has been patched and neglected, and it is beyond salvage. Our room was in terrible shape, and getting to our room was... more

If you are looking for a luxury 5 star hotel then this is not for you, but if you are looking for a cheap friendly hotel with good hot basic food in the ideal position to visit the lakes then put this on your list. We stayed 9 nights and had a large clean room on the ground floor. Two... more

As per other reviews we were encouraged by the outside view of the Windermere - mistake!!! We paid extra for a scenic view at the front of the hotel - don't do it!! The upper rooms which give the best ,but distant, view were dirty, very warm with no air circulation except an open window and then you get an... more

Don't be put off by the less than complimentary reviews of this hotel - if you want a good base for the Southern Lakes, parking and reasonable facilities, then its more than fine. Mostly self drive clientele means that the meals are served at later times than most of their other hotels (great having b/fast served until 9.30!) Meals -... more
