Looks very grand - Don't be fooled! Just returned home from a 5 day break with mum. The 2 person lift was broken all week - not good, as the majority of people had difficulty with stairs. We found the room uncomfortably small, wallpaper peeling off the wall, curtains worn and frayed, all fixtures and fittings including beds needed attention.... more

The most prominent hotel in town, next to the railway station, owned by the Shearings group so I guess specialises in coach groups. Appears to have been recently refurbished, wished I had paid a bit more for a larger room as the standard room was too cramped but a great view over the village toward the lake. Before I review - I am very suspicious of some positive reviews placed about this hotel. The lobby area is well presented but do not be fooled, any person who has stayed in a modern chain hotel or quality B&B will be dissapointed with this hotel. stayed here before and liked it, it will be lovely when the decorators have finished but when we were there they had closed the reception toilets for decorating and were in the middle of painting, re-furbing. Will not visit again as dont like staying in hotels that are being decorated at the same time, I think they should close to... more
