We have just spent an expensive 4 days at The Mortal Man and found the whole experience disappointing. Yes the location and views are impressive but sadly the hotel is not! All we heard was that the rooms were going to be refurbished by Nigel the new owner, but the prices charged would suggest that the work had already been... more

Just back from the Mortal Man and can't wait to go again. My Partner and I have just had a wonderful break, everything was brilliant even the weather. Bedroom and bathroom very clean and nice fresh clean towels every day. Food fabulous, my partner is exceptionally fussy but Chef did his food just perfect and even asked if he could... more

This hotel has the most stunning location and from the outside appears to be everything you would want in a traditional English Pub. The boards outside stated 'luxury accommodation' and we were promised a 'selection of real ales'. The menu looked very promising so we decided to stay a night. (Luckily just the one!) We were checked in by a... more

Booked a one night stay in what we thought would be a quality hotel- certainly based on the high price. I wish we had read some reviews beforehand. The hotel is in an idyllic location, but unfortunately does not live up to the expectation. The room was shabby and very dated. The big selling point was the panoramic views from the... more

Great spot, but alas, tired decor, in fact room was scruffy - head board taken off bed and holes in wall! Beer is a staggering £3.50 per pint!!!!! At breakfast you get a nice pot of instant coffee, surely at the prices they charge they could stretch to decent coffee in the morning. I've stayed in many places throughout the... more

After visiting the Mortal Man with family in February and having a lovely meal in the restraunte (but rather expencive for the locals to eat there) I took a friend back as I recommended the food, I have to say we where both very disappointed, with the food and the service, we ordered lamb it took the waiter three times... more

We went away with 2 other couples to celebrate my wifes 50th birthday. The pros were as follows: Super location with great views, friendly and helpful staff, really good food with a good selection to cover the 4 nights we were there, rooms are warm and cosy, public rooms have been carefully redecorated to a good standard....... And the cons:... more

We have just returned from a wonderfully relaxing break at the Mortal Man. In response to previous reviews the rooms are warm ,clean and comfortable ( the restaurant and other public rooms are beautifully presented). The real qualities of this hotel are the things that make your break one to remember- the food is delicious and there is an excellent... more

When we booked we requested a double room. When we arrived we were shown a twin room and told that we could push the beds together . It was down some steps into a dark corridor. The room was tiny and room smelled damp and mouldy. Even if the beds were pushed together it would be have been a small... more

It is with tremendous dissapointment to read of your recent experience at The Mortal Man. Whilst I appreciate that we are in the process of refurbishing the rooms I believe that you have not experienced a true experience of The Mortal Man. When prospective customers read alternative reviews I believe that they will be able to make a sound judgement....

The Mortal Man wins on its location, truly peaceful and beautiful. Its downside are the tired nature of its bedrooms. Considering the price we paid I would have appreciated little extras like bottled water in the bedroom and flannels supplied in the bathroom. The staff are friendly and welcoming and overall it was a very nice stay. more
