We came to the Lakes for a long break early March. Car parking is on site and provided. The Miller Howe was clean and nice. The waiters and waitresses were chatty and friendly. We enjoyed the location with breath taking views. We were impressed with the quality of food and service. The overall standard was really good and we couldn't... more

The Miller Howe. It is very hard to summarise really. The hotel itself is well located overlooking Lake windermere (although fairly high up) - you are not 'on the lake' but the views are stunning nevertheless. To the rear of the hotel is quite a busy main road which leads down into Bowness town. As our room was located towards... more

If you want to eat terrible food, served by pretentious staff, in ghastly, outdated surroundings - this is the place for you! We are happy to pay high prices for good food - this awful evening was high price, but utterly failed to deliver. £45 pounds per head for an appalling starter of overcooked tasteless fish, followed by main of... more

Miller Howe is a country house hotel with a very relaxed, informal atmosphere. The staff are friendly and warm and make what could potentially be a staid and stuffy stay very comfortable. The rooms are fine and the l'occitane bath goodies excellent. There is no tea and coffee in the rooms but the joy of spending time at the Miller... more

I cannot understand how any one could have a bad word to say about Miller Howe. We stayed here for a mid week get away and we had a fantastic time we have just booked another stay. All of the staff are friendly polite and helpful nothing is too much trouble. On arrival we were asked if we needed assistance... more

The dead flies and cobwebs hanging from thr kitchen windows which greeted us as we parked the car should have forewarned us of what to expect . On arrival we were expected to carry our cases up two flights of narrow stairs to a room in the eaves. On sitting on the bed we discovered that the mattress was very... more

My husband booked a 2 night stay in this lovely hotel to celebrate my 50th birthday and I don't think he could have chosen better. The staff are friendly and helpful; the food is plentiful, delicious and beautifully presented. The bedrooms (seem to) have been refurbished quite recently in a tasteful modern style although it's essential to have a view... more

Booked this hotel as a birthday surprise. It was nice but.... The rooms are fairly large and decorated in period style that is becoming a little tried to be honest. The Windermere room was clean with a small balcony for a beautiful view from the hotel. However the bathroom did not match up to expectations, being tiny with an essentially... more

This hotel is living on borrowed time; the past reputation will not be upheld for long if standards are not improved:- filthy hall and stair carpets are far from welcoming and not what is expected from a hotel of 'repute'. Room super but very small, staff friendly and helpful - but not professional or silver service. Grounds and rest of... more

Apart from having arguably the most stunning views across Lake Windermere, this small hotel manages to combine an intimacy one would normally expect when staying with friends, cuisine to a global standard coupled with that professional ism of service that is there when you need it, unobtrusive when you do not. Combine these elements and you have (as I did... more
