A friendly, unpretentious, luxury country house hotel set in the beautiful Lake District National Park, Gilpin Lodge is perfectly situated - far from the crowds, but a stone's throw from the breathtaking lakes and fells, and almost opposite Windermere Golf Club ("the miniature Gleneagles"). We have just spent two days at Gilpin Lodge and once again, it did not disappoint. We stayed in St Sundays garden suite and sitting in the hot-tub sipping champagne is just one of the pleasures to experience. The rooms and the huge bathrooms are well appointed to the highest standard, you would be hard pressed to find better elsewhere.... more

We stayed at Gilpin for one night to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary, It did not dissapoint. We stayed at the hotel 14 yrs ago before we had children! We remembered it with fondness and I was slightly apprehensive that it may not live up to our expectations this time. We booked a Garden Suite, and are so glad that... more

Whilst there are some very good reviews on this site, my opinion is that there are better Hotels in the Lake District. Whilst the food is good, Sharrow Bay, The Samling and Holbeck Ghyll I would consider better. Our bed was very uncomfortable, I have had better in a Holiday Inn Express at a fraction off the price. However the... more

My husband and I booked the Gilpin Lodge for Valentines weekend having read the reviews on trip advisor. We were not disappointed! We booked Dolly Wagon and spent two evenings enjoying the Jacuzzi under the stars drinking champagne which was only matched by the Michelin star restaurant. However being part of the relais chateaux group I felt that the Gilpin... more

WE had thoroughly enjoyed our first dining experience in Gilpin in 2006 and decided to return in 2007 for part of our honeymoon. We stayed in St Sunday Crag Garden Suite and we NOT disappointed (well, an understatement!) . The room is superbely furnished , biggest bed Ive ever seen and the bathroom is so well equipped . The shower... more

Our second time there this year. Forget the outside world and immerse yourself in the luxury of the decor, the room, the food and fine wines. The team are there to look after you in every way, and are only too willing to help enhance your stay in the hotel and the lakes. We stayed in a Junior Garden Suite... more

We booked a three night stay. Stayed in one of the garden suites.(worth the extra cost) I am unable to fault the hotel on anything. It was a truly memorable few days. The room was amazing, huge comfortable bed, lovely bathroom, seperate sitting area, beautiful views from the decking. Hot tub (didn't use as a bit chilly outside) Llamas in... more

Wonderful, luxurious, such friendly yet professional staff. Our junior suite was fabulous with lovely views. Attention to detail seems to be the philosophy of the hotel and there are many nice extras such as a rucksack complete with guide books, maps of the area etc for use during your stay. These are in every room. The food is first class,... more

We booked this hotel for a few days mainly on its reputation for good food. This turned out to be the most disappointing. The rooms we stayed in were first class and extremely well appointed. Especially the junior suite but the smaller classic room was somewhat cluttered, further limiting lack of space. The suites are definitely worth the extra. Service... more
