We have been lucky enough to stay at some wonderful hotels such as Swinton Park, Seaham Hall etc but our stay at The Samling was the best! This was mainly down to the fantastic meal and warm welcome. Our room (Tethera) had 3 windows overlooking Lake Windemere and was picturesque in spite of the rain. The rain did not stop... more

My wife and I stayed at the Samling for 2 nights in July 2009 for our Pearl wedding anniversary. It was suggested to us by a driver from Mountain Goat Tours on a previous visit to the lakes whilst passing near Ableside, that if anyone had the money it was quite an exclusive place to stay as many stars had... more

Four of us took advanrtage of the offer of a £25.00 lunch at the Samling on Sunday, 20 September 2009. The lunch was not a bargain. It was a loss leader. It must be said that the food was excellent and the service impeccable, but we surprised at the cost of our drinks. Two of us had a pre-prandial glass of wine... more

Thank you to all at the Samling for a great visit. Spent 3 nights in a suite. Yes it is expensive but 'you get what you pay for' House keeping excellent, veiws amazing, staff friendly, food super. My only critism is that the menu doesnt change daily but in the hotels defence the chef will order for you anything you... more

Arrive. Valet Parking. Martini for the Mrs and beer for me. Nibbles in the lounge. Shown to room - Excellent, spacious, very well appointed. Luggage already there. Happy staff all seem to enjoy their jobs. Nothing is too much trouble. Change the menu for you? No problem. What time is breakfast? Response - what time would you like breakfast. None... more

Having quite a wide experience of AA / Michelin Star places, must comment on the outrageous pricing system of the wines at this LAKE DISTRICT hotel. The cheapest glass of mediocre wine was £10 and bottle was £40. Have dined at many top London hotel restaurants where prices are lot lower - all have decent bottles below £30 and glasses... more

Our usual hotel in Windermere was booked at the time that we wanted a break, so I booked into the Samling having driven past the entrance on numerous occasions and subsequently checking the hotel and thinking it looked very nice. In a nutshell, there was something not quite right about our stay, and we didn't feel comfortable at all. It's... more

Complete rip off. Hell on stilts. The service was slovenly and grumpy. Outrageous prices. Cliched decor. The gardens aren't up to much. The food poor. The actual hotel communal areas are tiny. The entire place is run to extract your cash. more

Location - amazing, service - tried hard, room (Manmire) - comfy, but, for £600+ a night there was just something missing. One of my defining issues (& I may be called picky here but....) an empty cool bucket & bottle of champagne remained by the hot tub from our arrival on Sunday to departure on Wednesday & if the hot... more

The Samling is undoubtedly a beautiful hotel. Our room - The Bothy - was a delight, with its own terrace (from where you can eat breakfast), huge bed, large bathroom with a grand bath. The hotel is hidden away in its own gardens with views over the lake and you can walk from the grounds into hills behind. So a... more
