This was a lovely place. I chose it because of its friendliness towards vegetarian visitors and i wasn't disappointed. What a choice of breakfasts and at no extra cost ! more

This is a lovely hotel and when we got there Sue was very friendly and welcoming. We were a little wary of a few things because of some of the bad comments on this site but these people must be so uptight and picky. The room we stayed in (twin) was just the right size for a short stay, they... more

The room was clean and tidy. The breakfast was fantastic, lots and lots of choice. The location is very good for Bowness, 5-10 min walk to the lake and the restaurants. Its also a short 5-10 minute walk to Windermere. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again if up that way. more

I have been spurred into writing this review because the owners of St John's Lodge have printed out a number of negative comments made about them on this site and have displayed them for guests to read. I must say it is very brave of the owners to invite comment in this way but then again they have nothing to... more

Had a lovely stay at St. John's Lodge. The welcome was warm and friendly - Sue and Barry could not have been more helpful. Everything was spotlessly clean and my room was very comfortable. The breakfast menu was amazing, and my choices were delicious. Bowness, Windermere and fantastic walks were within easy reach - what more could one want! I... more

I did not like this B&B. It was the worst I have ever stayed in. Looking at the pictures of the rooms on the website, it seems nice but our room was nothing like this. I think we were overcharged because the quality of our room on the third floor (no elevator), was very inferior. The bed was so hard... more

What a puzzling comment! We do not have a third floor and we do not have any showers with shower curtains. Our showers do vary in size but one thing they all have in common is glass doors. We do not have any with curtains. Is this the phantom serial complainer at work yet again! I have however printed out...

I booked this hotel because the owners had the same surname as me. What a good choice, they were (of course) lovely. The room was scrupulously clean and very comfortable and quiet, I slept really well. Even though the owners were busy at breakfast it didn't stop them being friendly and helpful and the breakfasts... well, anyone who has stayed... more

We stayed at St. John'sLodge in August 2007. Although the weather was not great the hospitality offered by Sue and Barry was second to none. Our room was beautifully clean and tidy and the facilities more than adequate. The highlight was the breakfast menu. With so many choices we had difficulty deciding what to choose each morning. A great choice... more

Thank you for your custom and your kind comments. We always do our very best to make sure guests have a happy and enjoyable time at St John’s Lodge. As you know we have an extensive breakfast menu, we provide spotlessly clean rooms, free wi fi, free luxury leisure club access and as you say we are in an ideal...

I've never left a review on trip advisor before; but felt compelled to do so having just returned from a most disappointing B&B experience that I feel I should share with others who will then be able to make a better informed decision than I did. Echoing comments from some other former guests; we did not feel comfortable or welcome... more

I think that the best way to respond to this comment is to recount a tale from the case book of the famous detective Sherlock Holmes. ‘Sherlock Holmes and The Peculiar Case of the Stained Sheet’. In the office at St John’s Lodge Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson are in thoughtful mood. Holmes turned his face from the flickering computer...

My mother and I stayed at St John's Lodge in August and I feel that I must write and say how wonderful our holiday was. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, the breakfast was just amazing and my mother enjoyed a different meal every morning! Although the weather was not as good as it could have been, this certainly... more

Thanks a lot for your very kind comments. It was a pleasure having both you and your Mum to stay. I'm glad she enjoyed the breakfasts. I remember she was on a dairy free diet but I think there was still plenty for her to choose from. The great thing about running a guest house is that overall you get...
