I booked this hotel more out of necessity than anything else. My girlfriend and I needed somewhere to stay whilst up in the Windermere area for the Great North Swim and it seemed like every other hotel or guesthouse within a mile of Windermere's eastern side was fully booked. This place was a little bit more expensive than I would... more

Loved the room which was a small reet grand twin. Lots of lovely touches including a teddy bear , dominos, cards and real shortbread from a local bakery. Staff were really friendly and very willing to help. We had omitted to book a table for an evening meal but they did all they could to accomodate us, despite being very busy.... more

We booked the Queens Head for our anniversary weekend for 2 nights (15-17th August), as our usual haunt was fully booked. I was a bit skeptical at first, as there are mixed reviews on here, but so glad we went for it. It is in a fantastic location with stunning views of the fells and hills opposite. It is also... more

We have just returned from the Queens Head at Troutbeck. We booked a 3 night stay to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. This is a traditional Lake District pub but with a modern flavour. We booked a "Reet Grand" room which was room 3; this occupies the two windows directly above the front door. The room was large, clean and... more

Just returned from a 2night break to celebrate a birthday. We had a lovely peaceful break apart from the thunder storm and a couple of noisy peacocks! Stayed in one of the La'al rooms and found it perfectly adequate for a short stay,it was clean, the bed was comfy and everything supplied in bathroom. The hotel staff maybe young but they are... more

This is a charming country pub on the outskirts of Troutbeck, and not far from Windermere. The pub itself has a wonderful welcoming feeling, helped by the enthusiastic and friendly young staff (all of whom are uniformed in stylish black uniforms). It combines old world charm, with modern cooking, and a great range of wines and beers. Our room was... more

Booked a couple of months in advance for a 3 night DB&B break with friends for a walking holiday. Between booking and our arrival we learned that the hotel has been bought out by the Robinson Brewery Group. Virtually all the staff are new (the manager has been in post 5 weeks) and at the time of takeover 18 of... more

Comfortable rooms. Good food. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Reasonably priced. Would recommend it as a quality, comfortable place where you can eat well and stay cosy on your return from walking the fells. more

Had an excellent 3 night stay. The room was a little cluttered with antique furniture but had a lovely ambience. Not the biggest room I've ever stayed but extremely comfortable. The food in the evening was hugely enjoyable and the vennison was first class. Lovely location with Coniston Blue Bird on draught. Excellent. more

Gorgeous 17th Century coaching house about 10 minutes outside Windermere on the Kirkstone Pass. The rooms vary quite a bit and we had to settle for one of the La' Al Doubles, which basically mean small. Our room was perfectly formed, compact, comfortable, and located in the adjacent outbuilding. My only criticism of the room was the frankly dreadful TV... more
