Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The hotel is ideally situated next to the cathedral with plenty of onsite parking. The negative is that rooms are rather tired Positives far out way. Don’t think I’ve stayed in a cleaner room, absolutely spotless, staff are so friendly and communal areas have been updated. Didn’t dine in the evening but the breakfast was the best quantity and cooked buffet style we have ever had

I organised a group booking at this hotel for a visiting choir to the Cathedral. All email communication was promptly dealt with and the staff were flexible with regard to changes. The hotel were empathetic arranging two large round tables for breakfast each morning. I heard no complaints from any of the group which can only be a credit to the hotel.

Really great view and location. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The bed was comfortable, and the room was clean. However, the amazing view was a little bit tainted by the fact the windows were really dirty - appreciate it is winter, but you'd think with that view you'd stay on top of that. The bar area was a bit strange, is it a restaurant is it a bar? Not really sure, so we decided against sitting there as we didn't want to be in an armchair directly looking at a couple trying to enjoy a romantic meal. There was a wedding directly below us which we didn't mind, it was very loud but appreciate the hotel need to make money, but be aware that if you are in those rooms with a view you are likely to have a later night! Overall nice, but definitely felt like the hotel is ready for a huge investment to keep up to scratch.

Friendly reception staff, very knowledgeable bar staff and breakfast staff were also very good. Location is very good being over the road from the Cathedral. Room was clean and functional although there were no sockets beside the bed to charge your phone so that needs put on the order side of the room. I checked with my colleagues and their rooms were the same. Shower lacked power and the TV was set with subtitles which you can't switch off which did annoy me. Pleasant enough stay though.

The best thing about this hotel is its’ location as it is within a few minutes walk to Bailgate with the cathedral straight opposite. Bailgate has some lovely cafes, bars and restaurants so the use of a car or public transport is not necessary. The hotel has a decent car park and if you book directly this is included in your bill which is a bonus. We did not eat or have a drink there so cannot comment on the restaurant or bar. Although the hotel looked ‘clean’ it was however a bit ‘grubby’. There was a very strange odour in the corridors which I couldn’t quite decipher but it wasn’t pleasant. The decor looked like it hadn’t been updated since about 1983! Wall paper was ripped in our room and hanging off, once brightly coloured paintwork chipped and peeling and the once white glossed doors almost brown. The old brown furniture in the room was so stained and scratched from years of use, it just needed going to the tip. The duvet on the bed was so thin, cannot work out whether it was a very cheap summer one or had been a great quality winter one, once upon a time. We didn’t have much interaction with staff but the little we did, they were pleasant and courteous. I wouldn’t rush to stay there again as it is but if it gets refurbished to a decent standard would definitely consider it.

A group of family members 19 in total we all had a joint afternoon tea, I would of given a five star rating but they put us in 2 adjoining rooms but we couldn't see each other which was a huge shame, opposite us was a large room with a table big enough to accommodate us all, the staff were wonderful. There were various sandwiches ( egg ham chicken cheese salmon) (( those that ate the salmon said it was too strong)). Also half a scotch egg and a sausage roll i know they do a vegetarian and gluten free option too. there was also one large scone each either fruit or plain with jam and clotted cream ( plenty of cream) Then the cakes :- we each had a huge slice of Victoria sandwich cake ( i took mine home) a raspberry meringue cake a macaroon and a truffle type chocolate log ( i think this would of been much better really cold but slightly melting it was very thick and stodgy but very nice). All in all great value for money the bread was soft the cakes fresh, i will certainly go back again, its just so disappointing they separated us all with just a walk through between the rooms.

We had an overnight stay for my Husbands birthday. The positives were the great customer service, lovely warm room and view of the Cathedral, excellent shower, fantastic dinner in the evening and vast choice of breakfast. Ideal location for exploring too. The negatives were the slightly hard pillows, and the cooked breakfast which under the lights was lukewarm and within minutes of being on the plate got too cold to eat. The temperature of the plates and in the dining room were too cold which didn't help in keeping the cooked breakfast hot.

As a family group of 10 we booked into the Lincoln Hotel to celebrate the 80th birthday of our brother. Checking in was easy and the receptionist was very kind and helpful. Our room was really warm and clean and the bed was very comfortable. The meal in the evening was fantastic and our waitress, Lauren, was very charming and made sure we had everything we needed. The food itself was delicious. The hotel is in a brilliant position for visiting Lincoln Cathedral and the castle. The only negative we could find was that the hotel is in need of some refurbishment. The lift especially needs servicing urgently and this did pose a problem for some of our elderly group. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone. Thank you everyone at the hotel for making it an enjoyable stay.

We booked the Lincoln because it has a bus stop outside. We booked dinner , bed & breakfast fo 10 people to celebrate my 80th birthday. Some of the family travelled from the south coast. My other half is a strict vegetarian and was NOT enamered with the selection, and after much thought chose Cauliflower Steak, hoping it was not a mistake. Well it wasn't. and everyone we met was told. But The rest of the family were also 'blown away' with the meal. We are all agreed that the staff at the Lincoln Hotel did us proud, the service was excellent

We went for a large celebratory family meal. However, the meal turned out to be a bit of a disaster. The food failed to come up to standard. The rolls were still frozen, the beef was tough, much of the food was tepid in temperature. The deserts were bland. The hotel itself is not not much better. The dining chairs are flimsy plastic and felt as though they would collapse at any moment. The general décor was poor. It may be presenting itself as a bijou hotel but it fails. Most local people will remember it as "The Eastgate" which was a hotel of quality. The new modern look is not working and the standards clearly have fallen. Will we return, unlikely.
