Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I got kicked out of this hotel on 23rd Feb. 2024 because they allegedly overbooked, even though I’d already paid and had to move to another hotel. (They sent me another Mercury hotel in London.) I’m a platinum member of Accor’s ALL and stay more than 60 nights a year at Accor’s hotels. I had never experienced such a terrible service before. I sent a formal complaint and requested for invoice, but they keep on ignoring. Will never use this hotel again.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While I wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. If you give us a chance to earn back your trust, I can assure you that we will do our best to give you the great hotel experience that so many of our guests have grown so fond of. Sincerely, Reception Team

Having read previous reviews; I concur with many of the points already covered. Firstly and importantly, the staff are friendly charming and helpful. The decor is modern, clean and pleasing. Now for the items that spoilt my stay:- Annoying mechanical motor noise heard constantly in my room impacting the quality of my stay. Lack of a bar open in the hotel - went for a few drinks Sunday night just before 21:00 and all locked up! The above are no conducive to a hotel that I would wish to revisit. A truthful review whereby the staff work hard but let down by matters outside their control.

Having stayed at a number of Accor hotels this one is definitely not to their usual standard. Being branded as a Mercure you expect a certain standard, which this particular hotel did not meet. The heating did not appear to work and an electric radiator was supplied. The bathroom had a huge sink at the expensive of the toilet being difficult to use (it was also not secure on its frame). The bed had a memory mattress and topper, this made it very soft, couple this hard (old) pillows did not make for a brilliant nights sleep. If we had been here for more than one night, I would have asked to be moved. On the plus side, the staff were polite and the room clean, the location is also very good.

Can’t recommend. As a Marriot frequent customer, I never thought I would have such an experience like this in a Marriot hotel. Room is too small, but this was already known before reservation. What was unknown is the terrible acoustics isolation. You can hear everything from the rooms between yours and everything from de aisle. So, before 7am start the noise. The maids start early the cleaning, so you need to sleep or wake up with the vacuum cleaner appearing to be inside your room. The whole hotel has just one, old, elevator. One day of the stay, the elevator was broken. So…5 floors by stairs. When is working, be prepared to wait long time, as is the only one. To finish, I got the price with breakfast included, but I used just on the first day, as is very poor quality. The only good thing is the location, but I would recommend any other option, even if is a little bit far away.

Hi Caiopn, I appreciate you taking the time to leave a review even though it is not for the Mercure London Bloomsbury Hotel. I think you should of write this to the hotel you have actually had a stay at as you do not appear in our system. Therefore , this is a Mercure Hotel and it is a Accor Hotel , but not Marriott. Accor and Marriott are two different hotelier companies. Please double check the Marriott hotel you stayed at as you have never stayed here in Mercure hotel with us and this review affects our score rating and you did not stay with us. We would appreciate you delete the feedback as it will give an misunderstanding to the public that you've had never stayed here and give a such a bad feedback to a place you were never at. Please contact the hotel you've stay at directly for further assistance. I hope this information's are going to be clear for you. Kindest Regards , Adriana

Very unpleasant experience and I would not recommend this hotel though I'm a loyal Accor client. I was there for a business trip and typically I ask for the invoice to be sent via email which I never received. I have called a dozen times and sent many emails and they would not bother to send an email with the invoice. I have to go onsite next week to pick up the invoice!

Dear Mr. Taleb, Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Mercure London Bloomsbury Hotel. However, regarding your complain, I can assure you that we have sent you the invoice multiple times but, probably you have a security protection which doesn't allow to receive our emails. I am really sorry for this but, there is nothing else that we can do from our side. Looking forward to seeing you next week, to give you the invoice. Kindest regards, Magda

So this was our first and probably last time of staying at the Mercure hotel. We had a warm welcome from Roberto on reception and having seen our room. We were disappointed to find that it was damp and musty and not at all suitable. We complained to reception, and one of the other gentleman on reception showed us a couple of options, one of which was an upgrade which we gladly accepted. However, despite this room being an upgrade, it was a huge disappointment. It was very dated, the beds weren’t the most comfortable And proximity to the main road meant it was a noisy location. On returning to the hotel after an afternoon and evening at the theatre, we were disappointed to find that the bar was closing despite it being only just about 10 pm. Breakfast the next morning was also a huge disappointment as the quality of the full English was absolutely appalling. It was embarrassing to see visitors from abroad, struggling to find something palatable to eat. Overall, people on the front desk were absolutely fine, thoroughly professional and inviting. It was just a shame that the quality of the rooms leave a lot to be desired and the breakfast really is completely unacceptable for the amount of money that you are paying to stay at this hotel. Would we stay here again? A resounding no.

We stayed here one night while travelling from South Wales to Belgium. We choose the location as it is close to St Pancras, a short walk or one stop on the underground from Russell Sq. The hotel would make an ideal base to tour London. Staff were excellent and just that right mix of professionalism and friendliness. Our room was a superior room on the 7th floor. This hotel in common with a lot of hotels in the centre of any big city does not have a view on the side we were but surely that's not the only reason to book or not book a city hotel. The room was pleasant and equipped with all the amenities you would expect. The bed was very comfortable. One big plus was sachets of hot chocolate! The bathroom was showing signs of wear and tear but was clean and the shower functioned well. One last comment for Accor ALL members, welcome drinks are available at reception and you can take these to the bar if you require a glass, the bar is very well stocked and the bar person was a delight.

There is no stretch of the imagination which could make this a four star hotel. From the dingy looking reception area onwards, it is three star at best. The staff at reception were very good and did their best, but in truth the reception environment was awful and did not have an air of permanence, and clearly meant to be occupied by only one member of staff. The lift to the upper floors was straight from the 1950s. The room was also way outdated, tiny even by London standards, and it had the worst bathroom we’ve ever experienced, but it was so bad I’ll enlarge on the below. (No pun intended!) one of the wardrobe doors was broken, and it was Al close to the room door that it bears the scars of the door handle hitting it. The air conditioning was probably a revelation - 60 years ago, and looms menacingly above your head as you lie on the bed, blowing straight down on you. The bathroom however was in a class of its own. At its widest point it was maybe three feet wide. The small shower cubicle had a half door and it was impossible to shower without flooding the floor. The toilet was placed against the shower and left a gap of about 13 inches to enter and exit the shower, which had to be done sideways. Sitting on the toilet your knees are brushing the wall opposite. See the attached photo. All in all a disaster, and luckily we were only there one night. I use Accor hotels a lot, and in particular Mercure. Never again in London.
