We booked 3 nights for our end-of-cruise trip on the recommendation of family who had stayed here a few years ago. Located in a quiet area of London, it is easily accessible by the tube (Russell station is just a few blocks away). The hotel is in an older building - probably formerly flats converted to the hotel. Security is excellent, with a required pass code to enter the front door. The lobby doubles as the breakfast dining area, with tables and chairs. The desk is not manned at night. We found the receptionist to be very friendly and focused on making people comfortable. We had noted that there were no lifts in this building prior to booking and requested a ground level room, which we got. The room is simple and basic (a double bed with ensuite). The bathroom was a good size and clean, with expected towels and toiletries. There was a tea kettle and teas in the room. The bed, while a bit lumpy, was comfortable enough. There was a mini-split air conditioner in the room that worked well. There were no refrigerators nor microwaves, however. Breakfast was delicious - with a choice between continental buffet of coffee, tea, juices, water, rolls and cereals or a hot breakfast can be ordered, including eggs, toast, sausages, etc. This is included in the room cost. The nicest thing that occurred was on our last night. My husband had mentioned to the front desk that we would be leaving before they opened at 0700, and the evening before, unbidden, she presented to us in our room a large tray with cereal, yogurt, juices and milk in a thermos so we could have a breakfast before leaving the next morning! Such a nice touch! The only cautions I might mention is that this is a bit off the path from the main tourist areas....and as such I felt like we had to make a trek each day as we wanted to sightsee. We happened to be there on an exceptionally hot weekend (90 F!) So walking to the tube was brutal, even though it was only about 4 blocks away. It was also far away from the Victoria train station, where we arrived and left London....so it required an Uber/taxi in order to get our luggage there easily. (Uber was great). So, consider transportation for sightseeing or transit to and from the airports if you'd rather be closer in to the main areas. Lastly, we found plenty of restaurants and stores nearby - and the Lord John Russell pub was excellent! We ate there twice, with great service, quality food and an authentic pub ambiance. …
