- FarwriterLondon, United Kingdom113 contributionsA nice findFormer mansion belonging to the Rothschild family, which for perhaps a hundred years has belonged to the local council and now houses the local museum. It consequently is a strange mix of opulent house and municipal building! A bit of a rabbit warren, with several galleries of exhibits but spread over a few floors/down long corridors etc, but with a bit of exploring I think I found it all (and there is a free map to pick up at the reception desk). Sadly the historic kitchens were not open when I visited and that is the bit I would have been most interested in. Other rooms have displays about prominent local residents, local industries, leisure (Ealing Studios and various sports teams), domestic life, and there are three (empty) rooms with ornate columns and plasterwork from the Rothschilds' time. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area, especially because it's free. A short and straightforward walk from Acton Town tube.Visited March 2023Written 19 March 2023

Lots to do and see. Lots of smart, sporty types walking their dogs. After all the exercise, don’t forget miss the big, modern restaurant. Great coffee and a sneaky bun. Worth the little trip over.Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 29 December 2023

For a local museum they've worked hard to interpret the area and restore the mansion, and their current science fiction props exhibition is excellent, combining both artefacts and recollections on how they were made, and tying them into the local area.

Beautiful park on a nice day! Interesting history with the Rothschild family and Jewish immigrants to England. The park was laid out beautifully. The houses need some refurbishing, but I understand they are receiving lottery money to do so. Will return when the restoration is finished!

We only found the park as we had tickets to Dino Kingdom. What a fabulous place. Beautiful park with lots of space to explore and we will visit again as we were there for Dino Kingdom which was in a fenced off area. Just a nod to Dino Kingdom to, great day out, fantastic value for money, the dinos were life sized moving and amazing. My 3 year old grandson loved it (and so did nanna)

They have started charging to park 50p an hour or 75p for 90 minutes from 1st of May 2022 this is an introductory rate so what does that mean?. Went today car park was nearly clear normally it's difficult to find a space. I spoke to a volunteer who said they had been told they could park free this has now been rescinded if I was a volunteer I would walk away and do no more. I am of the opinion that they have made a bad mistake which will reduce footfall, but time will tell it will certainly reduce my visits there.

Great museum in the old Gunnersbury House which has been recently refurbished but still allowing it's history to shine through. For a local museum, it covers all the local history you'd expect (eg. Lucozade, Ealing Film Studios, Great West Road, Kiwi Shoe Polish) and artefacts are well presented.
The mansion still has many original features making for a really nice space to wander around. In particular, the massive kitchens are still in their original form and well preserved, so well worth a visit.
The park is also vast with a number of interesting features related to the house (being the former estate) such as orangery and temple.

Would a well behaved dog be allowed in the museum?

Have you anywhere we can shelter if it rains this week end as we have arrange a family reunion with people traveling from overseas.
And if not would we be able to put a pop up gazebo up for shelter. Please

Great question! Theirs not much place for shelter to be honest, although you can definitely pop up a gazebo for you and your family.
Can anyone please suggest reasonably cheap accommodation for a bunch of girls going to a festival in Gunnersbury Park?
