Stayed here for one night when my other half was attending a function at the Riverside Stadium (a £3.50 cab ride away). So, all I wanted was somewhere comfortable to have something to eat and wait for him to come back from the event and then sleep the night. The Tavistick Restaurant is very good and has a great value... more

Not a good experience. I have used this hotel before for a business trip and had no real complaints. However on this trip the hotel was busy turning the restaurant into a complete shambles for both the evening meal and breakfast. Hotel is decorated in dark colours and a black cloud hangs over it. more

Does not live up to the hype of Best Western's website. Sad and tired decor; a central heating / hot water system which struggles; a dimly lit restaurant / breakfast room. Typical of the hotel is the fact that at breakfast ready-brewed tea is dispensed by pump flask. more

Great hotel! They give us a family room for a price of a twin room. Very big room, very clean and EXCELLENT restaurant next the hotel (where the breakfast is served). Cheap and great quality!! more

Stayed here on business for one night. Based on the previous reviews I had seen here I wasn't expecting much. So therefore I wasn't disappointed when I didn't think much of it. The room was ok, a double bed and a single bed even though I booked a single room. The bathroom needed updating. I'm sure it was clean, but... more

A one-night stay at the Highfield is probably not long enough to discover all the quirks of the room, but we enjoyed a really good night's sleep! The Highfield is an imposing Edwardian house, with a very good Italian restaurant, the Tavistock, on the ground floor. Room 250 was small, but with a kingsize bed. The TV was on the... more

Located next to a housing estate, pretty big car park. Didn't feel entirely safe leaving my car there. Single room - crap telly with not many channels. Room stunk of bleach and there were dirty towels in a heap on the floor. Bed was comfy enough. Ate in the restaurant (Italian themed) downstairs. Lovely grub and friendly staff. Don't think... more

Stayed here for Friday/ Saturday night whilst visiting relatives. The room (501 ) was adequate in size and light with windows at the front of the hotel above the entrance. Bathroom was pleasantly decorated and overall the accomodation was clean, if somewhat shabby and the bed comfortable. The first night we both slept well the hotel was quiet apart from... more

Mixed thoughts about this hotel. 4 nights on business. Another fine old mansion house that is converted to a hotel, Run by best western Quite grand, very nicely decorated and furnished, large bar/restaurant area. A carvery for less than £5 each evening was great!! I booked a single room, which was of reasonable size, clean and with adequate furnishing, Bed... more

The staff in this hotel were great, food was good, everything was reasonably clean. Woken at 3:00, 3:20, 4:00 and 7:00 by the fire alarm. To be honest I won't stay here again with it costing more than £85 a night, I think half that would be more appropriate. more
