This is a great hotel to stay at and a refreshing change from a chain. I regularly stay at hotels and I can judge a good one within 5 minutes, and this is one. This has all the ingredients: quiet comfortable rooms with classic furniture (antiques?), shuttered windows, all the bits/mod cons (flat screen, WiFi etc), endless hot water, really... more

This was our first trip to Norwich, I was expected to enjoy the city which we did but unfortunately the hotel was, to put it mildly, extremely tired. If one looks at it from a distance, it is marvelous but when one gets closer it was very dirty, the paint flaking off everywhere. Our bedroom was very basic with heavily... more

Okay, I've seen the other reviews and i was filled with dread. I booked before looking and was really rather scared about what I was going to find. We got there and the outside of the hotel was, well, the best description would be tired. Paint flaking off the windows, it needed a good all round paint and scrub. Got... more

The only plus point was the staff were nice. The room bore no resemblance to the photo on the website. We left within the hour. We often stay at hotels and this was our very worst experience. £140 for a so called ' superior room' breakfast not included. Our advice would be to AVOID more

We stayed at this hotel for a family wedding that was being held there, there was five of us,myself,my wife, five year old daughter, three year old son and seven month old son so we booked a family room which contained a double bed and two single beds for the children. Upon check out we found out we had to pay £10 extra... more

The bad points: We booked 2 rooms as a treat for our daughter, her partner and ourselves to stay the night before her graduation. We were asked to pay a non-refundable deposit of £50 per room at the time of booking, which was 75% of the cost of the rooms (without the additional cost of breakfast). The rooms booked were... more

Awful Christmas Meal 2008 The whole Christmas Lunch a dreadful experience. Told there would be entertainment into the evening so booked at 1430 but when we arrived discovered they closed at 1630. Sea Bass unedible, informed waiter but nothing done. Paid for meal in full £130 prior to Christmas Day with meal selection as I cannot have alcohol. Still received... more

This is the worst hotel we have ever had the misfortune to stay in. The room was dirty and unhygienic. Even worse, the bathroom had no running water. When we complained in the morning the staff were rude and no other wash facilities were offered and yet they still charged us for the room. This is a “cowboy” set-up. Avoid... more

my partner and I stayed for one night to attend a works function. we decided to stay over as it was quite a distance to taxi home. according to their web page there was no rooms available. I gave them a call and spoke to a very polite woman who went through all the different rooms they had available, what... more

To cut to the chase: reasonable restaurant and the public parts of the hotel are fine. However, the rooms are not good value for money and have poor amenities - mine purported to be in the luxury category (cost: £76.60 + tax) but it only had a single 'sit up straight'-type chair and there was no desk. There is very... more
