When we planned a long weekend on the North Yorkshire moors, we considered staying in Whitby. Knowing how difficult it can be to park, we opted instead for the Salmon’s Leap at Sleights, 3 miles away on the A169.

This is a pub that has a large 2-storey extension, which dates from the 1970s, comprising function room on the ground floor and bedrooms above. We had Room 7, a small bedroom with a large bathroom; not all rooms are en suite, in fact we may have had the only one. The bedroom was simply furnished, with double bed, 2 bedside cupboards, small table and tiny chair and built-in wardrobe. The bathroom comprised toilet, sink and expansive vanity unit all finished in brown formica, triple mirrors and bath but no shower facility. Tea/coffee-making facilities were provided but there was no TV. The room looked and smelled clean.
