It was very busy when we went in so couldn't get a table for a meal, we had to settle for a drink before moving on. The pub is typical of those overlooking the harbour estuary with good views when you are eating. Nothing more to say really, we had a drink then left, but as I said it was... More

Only been in here for a drink and It's a nice olde worlde ish pub, drink and food ok, but as with a lot of similar places these days, it seems to be staffed with younger people who don't really seem interested in the customer. Do the owners/managers of these places employ younger staff so they can pay them the... More

Very poor welcome with no interest in customer service. Young generation in need of training. Uniforms for staff would help. Don't enjoy looking at a young mans boxer shorts outside his jeans! More detail is required by all the staff to get my return business and quick ! Only positive was all the real ales were served correctly, & location!... More

Ordered a meal for two I chose fish pie and my husband had chilli! My husbands chilli was served in a Balti dish with pilau rice and naan bread??? Despite the meal being advertised as served with nachos! The chilli was just pure heat which was there to mask the fact that there was no flavour at all! Now my... More

First of all I just want to say, I'm reviewing the restaurant not hotel part, so that's why there's a 1 for 'rooms' above. Last week me and my girlfriend came through to Whitby for my birthday. We knew we wanted to go to Duke, as been before and loved it. The barmaid was very friendly and chatty and it... More

Stayed here for 2 nights, room was ok bit small location is great with lovely views, we had room 2 which is right on ground level so you do get people walking straight past your window so not very private. Could hear the people above moving round on very squeaky floor boards and the cooling generator for the pub kicked... More

Spent 2 nights at the Duke, very enjoyable apart from the noise in our room through the night,it seemed to be noise from coolers in the cellar, kept kicking on and off and waking us up,very annoying, stayed at the pub quite a few times in other rooms and never had this problem. The room was ok although quite a lot of dust and... Stayed in Whitby this January during the blizzards and popped in. Found the barstaff friendly and welcoming and the beer well priced and varied. Eat there once or twice and found the food, while it won't win any awards, filling and tasty and not hard on the pocket. All in all a very pleasing surprise. Great views of the harbour... More
